Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon (2026 series) #1

Many years ago, Logan was drinking in a bar and a woman named Teri O’Barnes made small talk with him. He brushed her off and departed, followed by some sinister men. [Newly revealed part of Wolverine’s origin: Teri O’Barnes was a mutant tracker for hire. She located Logan for the Weapon X project and here he is about to be captured.]

Now: Logan has a nightmare about a blond young man running naked through snowy woods, accompanied by wolves. He wakes up, looks out the window and sees Teri O’Barnes. They go to a bar where we learn she has been trying to atone for her past as a mutant tracker by using her power to save mutants. She has also long ago apologized to Logan for leading Weapon X to him, not knowing what their intentions were. Now she tells him about the latest super-soldier program, this one called Primewarrior, capturing mutants who can heal as their test subjects. Teri has been warning the mutants they have been targeting but they managed to capture one: Tyler Torrens. But he vanished from her senses near Primewarrior’s facility in the Ozarks. Logan agrees to go with her….

On the way to the Ozarks, Logan dozes off in the car and has a nightmare about Weapon X. Logan and Teri arrive at the facility to see it is on fire. Logan overpowers two technicians and steals their hazmat suits so he and Teri can infiltrate the facility. They discover the project leader, Professor Ash ranting about the loss of their weapon (the enhanced mutant) and “the Box.” They pick up some idea of what has been going on and Logan studies film of the experiments which recall Weapon X. He is spotted as not belonging there and when they see his eyes, they know who he is. Teri finds Tyler’s shirt and Logan uses it to find his scent and they go tracking through the wilderness….

Meanwhile, Professor Ash phones the big man financing the project, Mr. Pruett, demanding he do something to recover the mutant and the Box. Pruett agrees to while also threatening Ash with death should he ever speak to him like that again. Pruett then phones an overseas war zone asking for Simpson. The commander then notifies Frank Simpson—Nuke—that he’s needed in the States….

Wolverine is having flashbacks to the Weapon X project as he trails Tyler Torrens with Teri O’Barnes. Logan then trips a booby trap and a bullet hits him in the forehead. He quickly switches into his hero gear and runs through the woods, dodging other traps and crashing through the front door of a cabin. He notes a shield similar to Captain America’s before he finds Teri has been captured by the cabin’s owner, who assumes they are from Primewarrior. David Coulter tells them the kid is free…

…as we see he is in the forest, surrounded by wolves….
