Synopsis

Avengers (2010 series) #14 synopsis by Rob Johnson
Rating: 4 stars
Like last issue, this issue has the action embedded amongst talking head mini-interviews.

One major strand of the interviews shows how Avengers members were unsure of the Red Hulk. But that the events of this issue showed he was true Avengers material.

Once again we have a scene of Sin/Skadi's forces attacking (probably) New York. But the main action is Red Hulk confronting Thing (transformed into Angrir, Breaker of Souls in FI#3).

After initially defeating Rulk, Angrir uses his hammer to bring down Avengers Tower. Jarvis appears to be the only occupant at the time, but escapes protected in a Stark forcefield. Red Hulk tries to hold the Tower up, but it collapses on him.

Rulk bursts from the ruins and gives Angrir a severe pummelling. But the transformed Thing soon fights back and gains the upper hand, smashing Red Hulk down with the hammer. And then sending him hurtling out of town.

Review / Commentaries

Avengers (2010 series) #14 Review by (January 9, 2013)
Captain America and Iron Man only appear in this issue as talking heads. Most of the talking heads look back at the action of Fear Itself. But once again some of the opening interview bits are obviously taken from earlier in Avengers history. Eg Wasp being alive, and commenting that "dying horribly would suck". The look-back interviews include Spider-Man in his Future Foundation uniform. And they indicate that the Fantastic Four lost Human Torch before Fear Itself. The Red Hulk/Angrir battle will be replayed in Hulk #37-38, where it will be seen that there was a lot more going on behind the scenes. It will also be made clear there that the battle takes place during Sin's attack on New York, which means that this issue occurs after FI#3 and possibly during next month's FI#4. In fact the cover for this issue appeared in Marvel Previews as next month's #15. (The blurb for #15 is non-specific, as is that for #14, but the cover picture for #14 is *somewhat* related to the contents of #15.)
