The Avengers battle the Hulks with Captain America (David Colton) demonstrating a violent streak. Red Hulk is surprised as “the Machine didn’t…” Colton seizes Rulk and carries him off into the distance. Captain America (Sam Wilson) orders Captain Marvel and Iron Man to follow them. Dave Cap and Red Hulk land in a field so Ross uses the tactic of moving the battle to a populated area as the Avengers will restrain their attacks, not wanting to incur a high number of casualties. Rulk lands in Kronlia, a large city, and Dave Cap follows, smashing through buildings….

Back at the main battlefield, Black Panther notes that one of the enemy Hulks has been wounded by missile fire but he is not healing as a Hulk should….

Iron Man and Captain Marvel arrive in Kronlia, rescuing children from collapsing buildings. Dave Cap seizes Red Hulk and brutally beats him until Winter Soldier arrives, threatening to shoot him. Cap turns to deliver a killing blow when Iron Man emerges from a portal and carries Dave Cap away, telling him he doesn’t have the right to kill Ross. Dave grows angry, telling Tony they all talk too much. Killing Ross will end the problem but the Avengers are all too weak to do anything but play at helping people. He takes off. The Avengers are called back to the city where the Hulks are down but it’s a disaster area. Bucky replies telling him that Colton and Ross are both gone….

In Russia we learn that the Winter Guard, specifically Darkstar, kidnapped the injured Ross, and they are returning to Moscow, wondering why their government wants General Ross….

Mr. Fantastic reports on the high casualty rate while Black Panther summons medical teams from Wakanda. Captain Marvel judges it a disaster….

Iron Man arrives at Ross’ base where a guard tells him that Ross’ team was winning until the Avengers showed up. Tony responds that the heroes all feel bad about themselves. F.R.I.D.A.Y. reports to Tony that a powerful object was recovered that may be a prognostication device for seeing the future. Tony now wonders what it was that Ross saw….

Avengers: Armageddon (2026 series) #2 Review by (July 15, 2026)

Review: Well that was quick. It’s only issue #2 and Ross is defeated. So it looks like Armageddon is going off in a different direction than hinted at. So Cap David Colton, with powers far beyond what the Super-Soldier Program gave him, echoes Ross that the Avengers should be eliminating problems instead of just talking about them and “playing at helping people.” This, it should be noted, is the general idea that led to this war in the first place, Ross believing that superior power should be used in systemic change around the world, similar to the One World under Doom and, going a bit further back, Thor’s “The Reigning” where Asgard conquered Earth and turned it into a fascist paradise (THOR (1998) #50-79). The real telling moment comes when Tony Stark is confronted by one of Ross’ people and tries to assure him that we (the Avengers) feel much more badly about this than he does. That’s it. The one response Stark gives is about how the Avengers all feel bad, supporting Dave Cap’s accusation that the heroes are all too weak to use their powers properly. And maybe he’s right.

So next up we discover what Dave Cap, now marked as a villain after sympathetic treatment in CAP and WOLVERINE’s books, is going to be up to. And what does Russia want with a damaged Ross?

Comments: Issue includes a tribute to the late Gerry Conway, Marvel Comics legend.
