Plesetsk, 600 miles north of Moscow, Russia: Red Hulk was detonated, killing at least 9000. The American superheroes are on the scene, lending aid when Captain America (Sam Wilson) discovers Winter Soldier’s mechanical arm. Moments later, Wolverine arrives with Bucky’s body….

In New York, Peter Parker stops by his favorite diner to discover waitress Anya is absent as her nephew was killed in the blast at Plesetsk….

At the United Nations, the General Assembly is debating the crimes of so-called superheroes. Invisible Woman and Human Torch are present, relaying info back to Reed Richards at the Baxter Building. Sue notes that Nick Fury Jr., head of SHIELD, is growing rather close to Secretary General Riani….

At his lab, Reed Richards is running tests on Captain Marvel who is devastated that she couldn’t save more people. Reed informs her that her work in Russia overloaded her system and she is now operating at about 10% of her former power. Without a word, Carol walks out….

Peter Parker stops by Anya’s apartment to offer his condolences. He notes that the disaster was caused by people with superpowers fighting each other but the heroes are striving for justice…then he worries that she hates superheroes right now. But she doesn’t and then tells him how Spider-Man saved her life, which left her with a positive opinion of those who risk their lives to help others. And she tells Pete she appreciates his visit….

In Russia, Wolverine stops by a bar and orders a drink then notices a smell outside and leaves to investigate. He meets the new Miracleman, David Colton, who feels overwhelmed by all this sudden power and doesn’t know if he can even be killed. Logan tells him the disaster was partly his fault and living with mistakes doesn’t mean a thing unless he tries to fix them and if he can’t fix them to find problems he can….

A group from the Pentagon approaches Tony Stark to insist that he help them rebuild America’s stockpile of nukes. Tony refuses and the generals respond with threats. After they have gone, Spider-Man comes out to ask what they are going to do. Tony suits up as Iron Man and tells him he is going away to create something that helps mankind. But Spidey wonders what the world will do without the Avengers….

Secretary of State Brooke is stuck in traffic in Manhattan when Invisible Woman and Human Torch arrive, pluck his car off the street and transport it to the airport. Sue thanks him for refusing to join the world’s ban on superpowers; he stops her, telling her that their opposition was not because of some commitment to freedom but because they were afraid of what the superheroes might do to them. He enters his plane to greet Nick Fury Jr., Director of SHIELD, who has agreed to use his agency’s resources to enforce the Superpowers Resolution. He doesn’t like being the world’s cop but the alternative is another disaster leading superheroes to decide to take over the world to set things right….

Reed calls Tony to tell him that the mystery boxes mirror the powers already on Earth, except the one that powered David Colton. So there is someone else on Earth with the powers of Miracleman. Tony responds that he examined Doom’s Probability Machine and as a test, he created a new universe to see how things would work out if they kept going as they have been and he ends up with a vision of Spider-Man and Mephisto. Stunned, Tony calls it the Key to Everything….

Captain America Steve Rogers emerges from his coma, asking for Bucky…

…whose corpse in Russia suddenly reforms, returning him from the dead, to be greeted by Nick Fury (Sr.), telling him they have to save the world….

Avengers: Armageddon (2026 series) #5 Review by (October 21, 2026)

Review: My, what a dense issue, existing mainly to set up the situation in the Marvel Universe for the coming months, or at least until next year’s big event supersedes it. The big story, despite our getting very few details, is the Superpowers Resolution. This thing will affect every superhero sort of like the Superhuman Registration Act, which led to the Civil War and ensuing events two decades ago. As I said, the details have not been revealed. But this time, all heroes are banned, or so it seems. Nick Fury Jr. and SHIELD are against the superheroes. Reed Richards is searching for the missing hero from the Mystery Boxes, Tony Stark is messing with the Probability Machine (and ends up in jail), Captain Marvel has lost most of her powers, Wolverine is in the comic for no real reason, Spider-Man hears some good news (he is appreciated by a waitress) while wondering what the world is going to do without the Avengers. Original Cap is back as is Bucky, though the latter has been gone for only one issue. Nick Fury (Sr.) is back (he returned during one of the Infernal Hulk specials, so maybe he’s just visiting here), and, oh yeah, there’s a new Miracleman who must find something to do with his life. And this is all first installments of new plot threads so we’ll have to wait and see which ones will affect the Marvel Universe in ways yet unknown and which will be quickly forgotten because no one cares.

Comments: The issue includes a tribute to Editor-in-Chief C.B Cebulski who is taking on the new job of Marvel’s representative in Asia. The issue also includes previews of AVENGERS (2026) #1, IRON MAN (2025) #12-13, THE INFERNAL HULK VS. THE AVENGERS #1, MAXIMUM X-MEN #1.

Oh and Thing is on the cover but does not appear inside.
