Baron Zemo gloats that he has finally got Captain America where he wants him, even though Mother Superior insists she was the one who defeated the hero. The Red Skull takes Zemo’s side and their vengeance proceeds….
Captain America and Bucky (a hypnotized Nomad) find themselves in the scenario in which Bucky died in 1945. They race to stop Baron Zemo (the father of the one in the main story) from sending the drone plane against the allies. They battle a giant android but they are defeated….
In the dungeons, Falcon finds an escape route so that he can get Bernie Rosenthal and Arnie Roth to safety….
Cap and “Bucky” awaken to find themselves strapped to the drone plane; they break free but chase the plane to prevent it from completing its mission. They ride after it on a motorcycle and Bucky leaps aboard. Cap manages to grab him and they plummet into the sea just as the plane explodes. Everyone then recovers in the Deus Machina device creating these false memories in their heads. Zemo is shocked that Cap was able to overcome the implanted memory but the Red Skull reveals the real plan: he wanted Captain America to redeem himself, atoning for his greatest failure. Why? So that the two of them can battle face-to-face with Cap at his peak, no longer bearing the guilt of failing to save his partner. The Skull then unmasks to reveal that he has aged horribly….
