Synopsis

Fantastic Four #150 synopsis by Rob Johnson
Rating: 4 stars
This story continues from AVENGERS #127.

Invisible Girl, Mr Fantastic and Thing of the  Fantastic Four, Scarlet Witch, Thor and Vision of the Avengers, and Black Bolt and Triton of the Inhumans stand paralysed as the the giant statue Omega reveals itself to be Ultron-7. (Others of their teams are lying around unconscious here in Attilan, where they congregated for the wedding of Crystal and Quicksilver.)

Ultron is holding them by his mental power. Now he lets them go to toy with them. Thing rushes in and is batted aside. Triton informs them all that the silent king Black Bolt wants them to hold back until they find out what Ultron has done with Crystal.

Reed Richards goads the gloating villain into explaining how he got here. Maximus, Black Bolt's scheming brother, had spotted Ultron-6's head which had survived the battle in Av#68. He used a tractor beam to bring the head to Attilan, reactivated the computer brain and installed it on top of Omega. (Despite all his attempts to take over the Inhuman kingdom, Black Bolt allows his mad brother all the scientific toys he desires, because he blames himself for Maximus' insanity as revealed in Av#95.) But as seen last issue the upgraded Ultron-7 immediately dispensed with Maximus' services.

Now the other heroes and heroines (and Maximus) revive from their unconsciousness (perhaps because Ultron allows them to). And he launches his final assault. 1st with massive fists, but then with his computer brain attacking their minds. And none can stand against him.

Agatha Harkness had slipped away earlier with her charge Franklin Richards. But now Ultron's powerful brain waves wake Franklin from the coma he has long been in. But the child's brain is also powerful, and he instinctively lashes out at Ultron. The power feeding back overloads the villain's brain, and the figure of Omega slumps to the ground.

And when Miss Harkness brings Franklin back to his family they are delighted to discover that the strain has drained the boy's power. He is no longer in a coma and no longer a danger to the world. He's just a normal little boy.

And now at last the wedding can take place. Ben Grimm has sent for his girlfriend Alicia Masters to be a bridesmaid. Reed and Sue remember their own wedding in FF Annual #3 (trying to ignore the bit about Dr Doom). Thor recalls his love for Jane Foster and Sif, and Iron Man muses that none of his later girlfriends could really replace Pepper Potts. (These 2 heroes know each other's identities.) Medusa commiserates with Johnny Storm, who isn't as over Crystal as he made out in Av#127.

Then Black Bolt gives away Crystal in marriage to Quicksilver. And Pietro's father Whizzer watches from Avengers Mansion, recovering from his heart attack in Giant-Size Av#1. Until the teleporting Inhuman dog Lockjaw takes the happy couple off on their honeymoon.

Review / Commentaries

Fantastic Four #150 Review by (January 7, 2014)
Franklin was put in a coma in #141. Energy from Annihilus' Cosmic Control Rod had been used to save the new-born baby's life in Annual #6, and in #141 Annihilus unleashed Franklin's psychic power in order to get the energy back. However the boy's power would have fried the brains of everyone on Earth, except that Reed used a device to shut his son's mind off. Hence the coma. The Golden Age Whizzer and Miss America were revealed as the parents of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in Giant-Size Av#1. However we will learn in Av#186/X-Men #175 that this was a deception by the High Evolutionary and that Magneto is really their father. Although the twins themselves won't learn the full truth until Vision & Scarlet Witch (1982) #4. Whizzer will show up again for a period in the Avengers starting from Av#151. The FF will return with the Avengers to New York in Av#128, where Agatha Harkness will begin training Scarlet Witch in witchcraft. Medusa will remain with the FF for a while. The other Inhumans will return in #158-159, where Medusa will rejoin them in preparation for their own title. Ultron will reappear in his next upgrade as Ultron-8 in Av#161-162, although he may be working behind the scenes in some earlier issues.
