Guardians Of The Galaxy #3 Review by (April 5, 2019)
The cover would be more truthful if it had Nova's helmet rather than Star-Lord's.

No-one in the series has actually referred to Eros' team as the Dark Guardians yet, only the solicitation for this issue.

Wraith is a Kree who was infected with Exolon parasites. In the 2018 Venom series we learned that the Klyntar race of Venom's symbiote was created by a dark god Knull. Now it seems that Knull created the Exolon too.

Cosmic Ghost Rider acts like he knows Nova but I don't think Richard Rider has ever met him, even as Punisher.

So Rocket Raccoon's not off in Avengers: No Road Home then!

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Guardians Of The Galaxy #3 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
On board the Shi'ar Destroyer Lilandra IV Eros/Starfox communes with a hologram of Thanos bemoaning the fact that no matter what he himself achieves he'll always be known mainly as Thanos' little brother. And now he thinks his quest to kill Gamora to stop Thanos being reborn makes him as bad as his brother. Shi'ar Emperor Kallark/Gladiator informs him that they have tracked down Nova (Richard Rider) (Gamora's sometime boyfriend).

In the Negative Zone Hela and the Black Order have come to see its lord Annihilus. They want Thanos' head, and Annihilus points to his children who are using it as a ball. Proxima Midnight offers to kill him but Hela says that as a Death Goddess she *knows* when Annihilus will die, and how and by whose hand. They duel for a bit and then she cuts off 1 of his hands. And whispers that as a Death Goddess she can *stop* that destined death. And asks again for the head.

Meanwhile on Elynor-143, a planet of sentient humanoid birds, Nova crashes to the ground pursued by Eros' Dark Guardians. Guardian asks where Gamora is. Richard Rider's reply is a blast of Nova Force. The Wraith snags him from behind with his whip and uses his Exolon parasites to cause extreme pain. He reminds Nova that they fought side-by-side in the Annihilation Wars (Annihilation Conquest). He doesn't wish to kill him but Starfox wants Gamora dead and has promised him in return info on Knull the God of the Exolon parasites to help him get rid of the parasite curse.

Gladiator stops Wraith from killing Nova, and the Cosmic Ghost Rider tries the good cop approach on Rich. Thanos is dead but his consciousness has been transferred to someone else, and his 'daughter' Gamora is the obvious candidate who he trained from infancy. Richard Rider won't let them kill her for something she hasn't yet done, but Ghost Rider points out she deserves death for trying to destroy the universe with the Infinity Stones (Infinity Wars). And with Thanos' mind she'll be even worse. Nova personally knows what a bad dude Thanos is, so he should be on *their* side.

Nova's reply this time is to rocket off. Gladiator orders them to give chase, but Ghost Rider says no-one can catch a Nova. [Well they obviously caught him earlier.] Nebula suggests they let him go and just track him. She guesses he'll lead them straight to her 'sister' Gamora. (G-Type and some Kree were also at the party but didn't do anything.)

At last we get to the stars of the show, the Guardians Of The Galaxy. In his spaceship The Ryder Star-Lord is burying his head in a pillow on his bed trying to ignore the rest of his team outside the door. Groot tells him something's happened to his father but when Peter Quill opens the door he discovers it was a trick, and the tree-being won't let him close it again. He says they've agreed to go save Gamora from Eros and pals. But Quill doesn't want to do that because the green assassin killed *him* (Infinity Wars again). He'd rather drown himself in booze, but Groot grabs the bottle and smashes it against a wall.

Apparently Peter and Groot are the only ones who know where Gamora actually is, but now Groot is going to tell the others. And he's going to take them there in The Ryder (they wouldn't all fit on Beta Ray Bill's hammer). Quill points out it's *his* ship but Groot says it's a mutiny and if Peter doesn't like it Bill will confine him in the brig. Moondragon and Captain Marvel (Phyla-Vell) are in on this too.

Groot tells them Gamora's gone to Halfworld to look for the missing Guardian Rocket Raccoon. And we see her there.
