Synopsis

Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk (Kansas City Star) (1982 series) #1 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

Escaping trouble, Hulk arrives in Kansas City, Missouri, where he starts a ruckus before coming to the zoo and taking a nap in the zebra exhibit. Meanwhile, Peter Parker, in town to cover China’s loan of a panda to the zoo, takes in some of the local sights before heading to the Jones Store to buy a snappy new shirt….

Meanwhile, Kraven the Hunter sees in the newspaper that Hulk has been spotted in the city and decides to stalk him. So while Peter is covering the arrival of the panda, his Spider-Sense goes off as he detects Kraven. The villain locates Hulk asleep in the zebra pen and attacks him. They dodge around until Hulk smashes through into the lion enclosure. Spidey then has to run around recapturing the lions and rescuing the panda. Meanwhile, Kraven has lured Hulk to a trap at one of the city’s grain elevators. He leads Hulk to the top where the Big Green Guy smashes through into the grain where he sinks into it like quicksand. Spidey arrives and clobbers Kraven while Hulk smashes through and, being low on oxygen, reverts to Bruce Banner. Spidey gives Bruce Peter’s clothing so he can get away unnoticed….

Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk (Kansas City Star) (1982 series) #1 Review by (October 7, 2026)

Review: Passable story interrupted by pages of merchandise features Kraven botching his latest hunt because he underestimated Hulk while still being unable to beat Spider-Man. At least this supplement has Spidey shopping at the sponsoring store twice, as well as taking in other local attractions.

Comments: Giveaway comic, though the cover says, "a 60¢ value." Promotional item for the Jones Store Company, distributed through the Kansas City Star. Comic includes “The A-Maze-ing Spider-Man Maze!” Multiple inkers include Joe Giella and Jim Mooney.
