Secret War Book Two

Synopsis

Secret War #2 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3.5 stars

One year ago, Nick Fury needed a hero team for a covert operation in a foreign nation: he recruited Captain America, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Spider-Man. A short time later, Peter Parker boarded a flight for Latveria and was surprised to find Matt Murdock, Steve Rogers, Luke Cage, and a drunken Wolverine aboard. There was also a young woman he did not know….

In Latveria, Steve Rogers went off with the American attaché while the others, including the enigmatic young woman, were taken to a safe house by a disguised Black Widow. There, Nick Fury (disguised as a Gypsy woman) revealed himself and explained the mission. Latveria is funding American supervillain for a terrorist strike against America, so Fury has assembled them to overthrow the government….

Today: Captain America bursts into Luke Cage’s hospital room and shouts "I told you this would happen!" and knocks Fury to the floor….

Secret War #2 Review by (December 19, 2013)
Review: Things are grittier in this issue as this superhero spy story gets under way: covert acts! Secret plans! Undercover identities! But Gabriele Dell’Otto’s art fails to overcome the usual Bendis inanities: his Spider-man is a whiny insecure kid, Captain America is a hothead, and Wolverine is largely a joke in his comical drunk scene. If you’ve ever wondered what Wolverine would be like if instead of Hugh Jackman they got Will Friedel, here’s your chance. And wait…Black Widow is disguised in a burka? Latveria isn’t a Muslim country!?! Bendis does his best to undermine the suspense at every point….

Comments: First appearance of Daisy Johnson. Jessica Jones and Danny (Iron Fist) Rand have brief cameos.
