Story continues from WOLVERINE ANNUAL #1.

Colleen Wing arrives in Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon. She leaves a lengthy message on Misty Knight’s voicemail, informing her that a guy calling himself Worldmind has been speaking in her head, wanting to hire her as bodyguard. She hangs up when she encounters Worldmind in a field. He reveals he has only had telepathic abilities for a few months since he bonded with the Mind Stone. She begs off, saying cosmic level stuff is out of her league but Worldmind assures her he knows what is coming and how to stop it. Then Thanos emerges from the forest, demanding the Mind Stone. Colleen confronts Thanos with her sword, trying to intimidate him. Thanos breaks the sword with his hand and hurls Colleen several yards away. Worldmind tells him that Colleen was present to save Thanos from Worldmind; he unleashes his power, causing the darkness in Thanos’ soul to bring him to his knees in agony, while Worldmind offers the Titan a chance at redemption. Thanos responds by grabbing Worldmind and ripping the stone from his body. But the Mind Stone has sent out a summons for help—and the Hulk arrives. Thanos tells Hulk he has no business here but Hulk doesn’t care and a massive battle of fists takes place. As Thanos gains the upper hand he calls Hulk “puny,” which sends him into a rage so that he fights even harder. When the two exhausted combatants take a breather, Colleen steps forward, revealing she is the new bearer of the Mind Stone. Thanos demands the Stone so she stabs him through the head with her reconstituted sword. Colleen knows he will recover soon so Hulk punches Thanos’ head into the ground, giving Colleen more time to get away. “Tell the trinket to never do that again,” says the Hulk and he departs….

Review / Commentaries

Incredible Hulk Annual #1 Review by (August 28, 2024)

Review: A slugging match between Hulk and Thanos? And it’s the smart, mean Hulk from the current series? This I gotta see. And it’s a brutal fight but the star of the show is Colleen Wing, a character not usually at the center of the action. And as a martial artist thrust suddenly into a cosmic adventure she tries to hold her own but it isn’t until she has the Mind Stone that she can defeat Thanos. In fact, that’s the big joke: Hulk is in the issue only to occupy Thanos until Colleen can take over. Seems odd but if Hulk is okay with it, who are we to complain?

Comments:  Issue includes a tribute to late MCU production designer Ray Chan.
