In Avengers #2, Thor, Giant-Man, Iron Man, and the Wasp try stopping the Hulk as a group, after Jade Jaws left the Avengers. But, what if Thor, Giant-Man, and the Wasp decided not to remain as a team, despise of Iron Man’s requests?
Tony Stark, A.K.A. Iron Man, and Rick Jones try convincing the Hulk to stop his rampages. But Hulk beats the armored hero. Later, Hulk faces the Sub-Mariner, but they end up teaming up to confront humanity, starting with the disbanded Avengers. Since that team no longer existed, Iron Man created the “Armored Avengers”, calling Rick Jones, Giant-Man, and the Wasp. Unfortunately, the new recruits could not operate their armors successfully. Iron Man got very frustrated and the new team disbanded.
Iron Man powers his armor to the max and confronts the Hulk and the Sub-Mariner alone. Rick Jones convinces Giant-Man and the Wasp to aid Stark. They try but lose. Giant-Man is badly hurt. Iron Man transfers his power to save him, causing his own death.
Hulk realizes Rick was one of Iron Man’s armored heroes. He and Namor end up fighting under water.
Finally, the Armored Avengers dedicate their lives as heroes in memory of Stark.
