What If General Ross Became The Hulk? (2005 series) #1

The Watcher presents another alternate history of the Hulk. The Gamma Bomb test is scheduled as usual except that this time, when Rick Jones is spotted on the testing range, it’s General Ross who goes out to confront him. The bomb goes off but now Ross transforms into the Hulk instantly and kills Rick….

The new security chief, Glenn Talbot, arrives, looking for General Ross. Bruce Banner notices that Igor is missing and connects him to the explosion. Ross-Hulk goes home to seek help from Betty but he is a monster and while he retains Ross’ intellect, he cannot articulate so the only result is that he terrifies his daughter. Betty phones for help and when Ross sees himself in a mirror, he panics and flees….

Meanwhile, the spy Igor, having stolen Banner’s notes, has stolen Ross’ car and is fleeing the area. Ross-Hulk spies his car from the sky and drops to the ground in front of the car, which crashes into him. Aware that Igor is an enemy spy but unable to speak, he picks up the car and Igor and hurls him at a gas station, causing a fiery explosion. The army arrives so Ross-Hulk retreats. As he heads toward home, and helicopter shoots him down. In the desert, he is quickly surrounded by tanks so she tears into them, smashing some, hurling others into the distance. He leaps off home—to discover that one of the tanks he threw landed on his home. Bruce Banner reveals that Betty was killed in the incident. The shock turns the monster back into Ross as he falls to his knees in sorrow. Bruce is aware that only one thing can be done…and he shoots Ross in the back of the head, killing him….
