Synopsis

X-Men: Legacy (2008 series) #267 synopsis by reviewer Rob Johnson
Rating: 4 stars

The Phoenix Force is coming for Hope Summers to make her its new host, and the Avengers and the Utopia Island X-Men under Cyclops are fighting over control of her (in the Avengers Vs X-Men series). Wolverine, headmaster of the Jean Grey School, was hoping to keep his staff and students out of it. But he himself has gone to join the Avengers, leaving headmistress Kitty Pryde in charge (in Wolverine & X-Men #10). But last issue teachers Iceman and Marvel Girl plus student Angel left to join Cyclops' side, and Falcon, Moon Knight and She-Hulk turned up to make sure no-one else did. A fight broke out with Frenzy and Rogue and some students, and the Avengers summoned the aid of Iron Man.

Rogue has absorbed some of She-Hulk's power and is fighting Iron Man in midair but loses. Cannonball, Gambit and Mimic join the fight while Chamber and Husk get wounded  students Glob Herman, Hellion and Match to safety. Now it's CB vs IM, Mimic (with Angel's wings and Cyke's eye-blasts) vs Falcon, Gambit vs MK and Rogue vs SH. Sam Wilson is still trying to deescalate the situation but gung-ho IM takes out CB with a sonic blast to which he's not invulnerable. Rogue downs SH and decides it's time to revert to the full use of her absorbing power that she'd forsworn - which takes all of a foe's power, skills and memory and leaves them drained. She pulls Falcon off Mimic and does it to him, including sending a flock of birds to mob IM until she can grab him and toss him a long way away.  She sends Mimic to keep him busy while she uses Falcon's agility to evade SH until she can fully absorb *her* powers, reverting her to human Jennifer Walters. But their 2 voices in her head are interfering with her thoughts, causing her to lash out at her ally Frenzy.

Chamber and Husk have got the 3 students back to the school, but it's locked to keep the Avengers out. However Kitty Pryde phases them in. The 2 teachers explain the kids' injuries and what's happening outside. KP phases out to do what she can.

Gambit and MK are still sparring while Mimic uses Iceman's ice to trap IM, who breaks free and zaps the mutant with his chest uni-beam. Rogue flies up and starts to break IM's armour. G & MK continue their fight as Rogue drops to the ground. But then MK pole-vaults over his opponent to get to Rogue and touches bare hands to her face forcing her to absorb *his* personality. Or rather his multiple personalities and the clamour in her head increases. That leaves IM free to attack Gambit. The explosive blows of G's staff cause some damage and the mutant is expert at dodging blasts from the Avenger's hand repulsors and chest uni-beam, until IM gets him with a wide-beam strike from the uni-beam. Maddened Rogue slams all her She-Hulk strength into IM's chestplate both hoping and fearing it will stop keeping Tony Stark's damaged heart beating.

Kitty reaches Frenzy who is only now recovering from the Rogue/SH blow. Pryde gets her to fastball special throw her at IM so she can phase through him hoping to disrupt his armour's cybernetics. But the armour is proof against that. Frenzy attacks IM as KP lands beside Rogue who's fighting the minds inside her. She tells her that this 'Iron Man' is an empty (AI or remote-controlled) armour. She fires Rogue up to overcome her problems and really let rip when she attacks the armour and smashes it to bits.

Later the other unconscious Avengers have been loaded into their quinjet which will take them home on autopilot. Kitty says they've lost their neutrality now, but Rogue says they never had a chance of maintaining it. She suggests they contact Rachel Summers and Iceman and tell them they're in. She adds that she's going to keep the stolen powers for the duration, despite the concerns of her lover Gambit.

X-Men: Legacy (2008 series) #267 Review by (November 22, 2025)
Kitty Pryde stays with the students (seen here and last issue) in the School as their story returns to Wolverine & X-Men #11.

Gambit immediately joins in 1 of the Avengers/X/Men fights in Avengers Vs X-Men #4.

Frenzy joins that side too but to have her own adventure next issue as she sorts out a mess caused by the en-Phoenixed Cyclops during AvX#5.

Cannonball will appear next in AvX#6 with the Utopia team but only to have a relaxing game of golf while the en-Phoenixed 5 bring Utopia to the world.

Husk stays at the School but her next app is just a cameo in W&XM#13 during AvX#7.

Rogue isn't seen opposing the Avengers but (without her borrowed powers) she works with the en-Phoenixed 5 in our #269 during AvX#8.

Mimic and Chamber won't be seen again until it's all over in our #275 and W&VM#19 respectively.

Meanwhile She-Hulk will work with the Avengers in several issues starting with Uncanny X-Men #12. Falcon will show up in AvX#7. But Moon Knight will also wait until it's all over in Avengers #34.
