Synopsis

Avengers, The (1963 series) #311 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

Quasar arrives at Avengers Island in New York Bay. Landing, he ponders Captain America’s choice of Bob Frank—the former Nuklo—as gardener and heads inside the HQ. He is greeted by the support team: Peggy Carter, Fabian Stankowicz, M’Daka, Michael O’Brien, who are concerned for the Avengers. It seems the heroes are finding themselves facing unfamiliar adversaries and it may be part of a plot….

The Mystery Man who engineered the plot (spoiler alert: Loki) gloating over his scheme and how he has duped the world’s supervillains into believing they are in charge. He is summoned to a meeting with Doctor Doom and the Mandarin who are quarreling about their contributions to the plan….

Back at the island, Peggy Carter tells Quasar that she has been unable to contact any of the other Avengers. Suddenly they find the island under attack by killer robots. Quasar leaps into the fray while the support crew grabs heavy weaponry to fight off the attack. The enemies are tough opponents and the battle builds to a fever pitch….

In space, Starfox forces his way into Nebula’s spaceship and disguises himself as a guard. On the bridge he overhears Nebula, who claims to be the granddaughter of Thanos, being briefed on a set of ancient tablets that hold the secret she has been seeking. And the key is an aged Earthman who does not suspect his place in the scheme of things….

Under the relentless firepower of Quasar and his team, the robots eventually give up and retreat into the sky. Quasar conjures a massive jack to prevent the island from sinking any further while the team evacuates the island. Quasar suspects a trick—and he’s right: a bomb explodes destroying the fuel dump and sending the island to the bottom of the bay. The space hero is barely able to save Peggy and O’Brien and deposit them in a Quinjet flown by Jarvis. Quasar surveys the destruction and wonders if it is the beginning of the end….

Review / Commentaries

Avengers, The (1963 series) #311 Review by (February 11, 2012)
Comments: ACTS OF VENGEANCE Part One (follows Prologue in AVENGERS SPOTLIGHT #26). Story continues in IRON MAN #250 and THOR #411. Thor, Captain America, She-Hulk, Sub-Mariner, and Sersi are on the cover but do not appear inside. Story follows QUASAR #4, not part of the “Acts of Vengeance.” Fabian Stankowicz’s name is spelled “Stankowitz” in the story. Nebula first appeared in AVENGERS #257.
