Synopsis

Captain America/Black Panther: Flags of our Fathers #3 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

In the aftermath of the battle, Nick Fury questions a wounded Nazi soldier as to the location of the enemy base camp. Fury then orders Gabe Jones to find the source of the sought-after Vibranium while he and the other Howling Commandos scout the enemy camp….

At the royal palace, T’Chaka’s sons, T’Challa and S’yan, bicker, with their mother teaching them a lesson by sending them to dig graves. T’Chaka drives home the moral that their quarrleing is not worthy of the kingdom they will inherit someday….

At the German camp, the Red Skull introduces his minions Master Man, Warrior Woman, and Armless Tiger Man to their new local ally, the White Gorilla. The Skull allows the White Gorilla to demonstrate his value to the team by slaughtering the Wakandan prisoners….

Fury meets with Captain America and persuades him to take on a special task that will give them the edge….

Gabe Jones heads to the Vibranium mines, getting an eyeful of Wakanda, an African paradise. Arriving at his destination, Gabe is just in time for Master Man’s assault on the mine….

Warrior Woman drops into the capital riding on a bomb and proceeds to devastate the area, but Captain America arrives to stop her from killing an elderly woman. The Nazi villainess responds by hurling Cap into the sky, where he is rescued by the Black Panther in a plane. Master Man has destroyed the totem which protected the Wakandans from mechanical attacks but they can respond with heavy artillery of their own. The Panther is summoned to battle at the Great Mound and Cap drops from the plane to face Warrior Woman once again. On the ground, as the Queen is being menaced by White Gorilla, Cap lands on the African villain, allowing her to escape. Elsewhere in the capital, Armless Tiger Man tears a bloody swath through the defenders, while Warrior Woman takes out the King’s twin Amazonian aides….

At the mine, Master Man overcomes the workers and Gabe Jones, who manages to get out of the way in time for T’Chaka to crash his plane into the Nazi superman….

Fury and the Howlers arrive at the Nazi base camp to be greeted by the Red Skull, wearing a massive mechanized armor suit….

Cap allows the White Gorilla to keep hitting him until the baddie is exhausted and then knocks him flat with a blow from his shield….

Armless Tiger Man corners the Queen and princes in the palace; when T’Challa tries to goes for help, the Tiger captures him and uses him as leverage against his mother….

Review / Commentaries

Captain America/Black Panther: Flags of our Fathers #3 Review by (June 13, 2010)
Comments: The Black Panther is T’Chaka, father of T’Challa. The special task Cap is given by Fury does not become clear in this issue. On the final page, the Queen calls T’Challa, T’Chaka. Review: All-action issue has a little trouble keeping the scenes straight with its constant cutting back and forth but is otherwise exciting. Hope there’s a point in the final issue.

Captain America/Black Panther: Flags of our Fathers #3 Review by (July 4, 2011)
We learn that Azzuri is the name of the current Black Panther, T'Challa's grandfather. The White Gorilla is the leader of a rival tribe. Presumably the title and abilities go with the leadership, as the Panther's do. The modern villainous encumbent goes by the title Man-Ape, introduced in Avengers #62. He was originally described as a devotee of the banned Wakandan sect of the White Gorilla. But he and his sect were depicted as a tribe the Jabari in BP(1998)#34. Sgt Fury sends Gabe Jones unwillingly to steal some vibranium. He also gives Captain America a special mission which goes against the grain. We are never told what this unsavoury mission is, but next issue says it would have meant betraying Panther. Is he also to try to steal vibranium?
