Captain America: Steve Rogers #2 Review by (June 30, 2016)
Comments: Since nearly the entire story takes place in the Red Skull's memory, technically the Red Skull is the only character in the issue..

Review: See, and you were all worried or nothing.... We all knew that there would be a logical explanation for Cap's heel turn but little did we guess that it would be revealed in the very next issue—or that the issue would be devoted solely to explaining the Big Bad's plans over the last year or so. Anyway, it's nice to know we can go back to enjoying the comic without getting our knickers in a knot—c'mon dude, it's only a comic book and Marvel wasn't about to destroy one of their biggest properties without having a plan in place to get it back to the status quo (a prediction: Sam Cap will be history in under two years). The issue itself works out pretty well, seeing as it is all exposition: everything is clearly laid out so the reader to move on to issue #3. My only gripe is a bit of out-of-character action by the Red Skull. Remember, last issue Baron Zemo said “Toodles.” This time, the Red Skull has his entire kitchen staff kills themselves because he didn't like the soup. There are some villains who don't work as comedy characters and Nazis run high on that list, even ex-Nazis.

Captain America: Steve Rogers #2 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

The Red Skull relates the latest developments with Captain America, Hydra, and the Cosmic Cube:

Years earlier the Cosmic Cube had been shattered in a fight between Cap and his archenemy. The broken pieces were collected in a SHIELD lab. There, the fragments molded themselves into the form of a little girl calling herself Kobik and Dr. Eric Solveig was put in charge of her. Kobik, knowing she had once belonged to the Red Skull materializes in his home and fixes Sin's disfigured face. Once the Skull recognized what he had on his hands, he raised her to believe that he and Hydra are the good guys and she secretly transformed Solveig into a faithful Hydra member. The Red Skull had Solveig propose the idea of the Pleasant Hill prison to Maria Hill who loved the idea and brought it to fruition. All of the events of the mini-event SHOWDOWN were orchestrated by the Skull who was on hand disguised as the priest Father Patrick. And following the plan, Kobik gave Steve Rogers back his youth and powers to become Captain America again...and at the same time made him a devoted follower of Hydra....
