Captain America (2025 series) #14

At the Devil’s forge, Captain America (Steve Rogers) and Doctor Doom with their party have confronted the demon Frenza, holding the Antidivine, who has revealed she is Valeria, Doom’s long ago lover who Doom sacrificed to Hell to gain magical powers. She is angry and tries to kill Doom but Steve disarms her in a plea for peace. But Doom has recovered the sword and offers it back to Valeria to kill him for the wrongs he has done her. She considers it but refuses to become like Doom. Bartand the Smith gives the Antidivine to them, if their goals are what they say, intending to give the denizens of Hell control over their destinies. Doom vows to free Valeria from this place and so she agrees to join their cause….

Back in a New York hospital room, Nick Fury Jr. addresses the comatose Steve Rogers, concerned about the troubles in the world and whether the days of superheroes are over, wishing he had Steve, the bridge between human and superhuman, to show him the way out….

The Red Skull leads his army and is intercepted by a message from Mephisto. The head devil informs him that Valeria has found Cap/Doom’s party and joined their cause while Red Skull was strutting around, posturing and interrogating everyone. Now Skull needs to shape-up and get his troops to the battlefield for the next event….

As Steve and Torvoz walk along, the latter appreciates Steve’s help but Steve insists he’s no savior, just a man who keeps fighting. The party arrives at the Suffering Prison, presided over by Jailer Kra’l, a purple giant with horns. While Steve tries to devise a plan, Doom goes for the advantage of surprise and leaps at the monster, swinging the Antidivine. Kra’l seizes Doom, leaving the sword embedded in his shoulder. Steve leaps down to free Doom while Veratok seizes the sword and delivers a killing blow to the monster. Steve announces to the damned that they have a chance to save themselves by joining the battle to overthrow Mephisto. Torvoz the Preacher steps forward immediately to lay claim to the throne—until Steve punches him and announces that the humbler Veratok will rule Hell. Then Mephisto’s army arrives and Steve is shocked but not surprised to see the Red Skull among them. Doom wields the Antidivine but the stress of its proximity is severely weakening him. Red Skull challenges Steve Rogers who is suddenly no longer questioning his mission. Taking on his enemy, Steve says, “I could do this for all eternity.”
