Civil War: The Confession #1 cover

Story Name:

The Confession--Part One

Synopsis

Civil War: The Confession #1 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars
Iron Man jets aboard the SHIELD Helicarrier and is shown to a room where a mysterious guest is held. Removing his helmet, Tony Stark addresses his unseen companion and speaks of the resentment SHIELD agents feel toward him for supplanting Nick Fury and then goes on to invoke Pyrrhus the ancient general whose victories seemed more like defeats. He tells why this all happened: it goes back to Iron Man’s adventure in King Arthur’s England, battling Doctor Doom and Morgan Le Fey; it was on that battlefield that he realized one day heroes would be at war with each other. He tried, through the Illuminati, to get the heroes to police themselves but when the war came, it fell out exactly as he had foreseen (except for Spider-Man’s choice of side). When the Registration Act was passed, Tony knew he would have to support it and work through it to bring stability to their world again, even though he would be branded the bad guy. But, he tells his companion, revealed to be the corpse of Captain America, the one thing he can never tell anyone else, "It wasn’t worth it."

Synopsis

By Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars
Having just surrendered, Captain America is placed in a maximum security cell, where he receives a visit from Iron Man. Tony tells Steve he should have stopped the rebellion when he had a chance; Steve responds that his group maintained their principles but Tony’s group sold out, therefore, Steve, despite being in prison, is the real victor. He knows freedom but Tony only knows compromise, arrogating to himself the role of moral compass and forcing the war to take place. Therefore Steve hurls the challenge, "Was it worth it?" Iron Man calls him a sore loser and walks out; "You bet," replies Captain America.
