Synopsis

Falcon and Winter Soldier #3 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4.5 stars

Falcon and Winter Soldier are visiting the family of the hitman known as The Natural and they are major fans of Captain America. The doting parents have nothing but love and support for their boy even when Sam and Bucky suggest he may be running with a bad crowd (Hydra). They promise to set Junior back on the straight and narrow so the parents give them the address of the Hydra training center downtown with two conditions: a) they leave their guns behind and b) they dress in homemade Falcon and Cap costumes….

Sam and Bucky, dressed uncomfortably, enter the building and find Junior assembling a gun blindfolded. He is much faster than they and holds them at bay before they can reach him. He is a major fan of theirs and thinks Hydra is pretty cool and will turn into good guys once Baron Zemo is eliminated. He gives them his model shield and points out that the Hydra trainers are on their way in. Sam and Bucky beat the living crap out of the Hydra killers while wondering if one of them could be the missing Sally McKenzie. The Natural returns in his homemade Cap costume and talks about his obsession with Captain America and how he admires his code of honor. Questioned about how that fits in with being a Hydra hitman, he says that Hydra will be getting rid of the real bad guys soon. They tell him it’s never too late to turn his life around using Winter Soldier as an example. He is convinced and offers to take them to the Hydra base in Nevada; they ask him what he did with Bucky’s handler Veronica Eden whom he kidnapped. He explains he didn’t kidnap her: she’s going to be the new Hydra Supreme….

Review / Commentaries

Falcon and Winter Soldier #3 Review by (January 5, 2021)

Review: This series continues to be a comical gem. The visit to the Cap-crazy parents; the duel with the Cap-crazy kid. The big brawl with the Hydra killers. It’s all fun. And we get a look into the warped viewpoint of a Cap fan serving Hydra.

Comments: Issue is bannered with a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman. One of the bits of memorabilia in the parents’ home appears to be the grotesque Cap sculpture from CAPTAIN AMERICA (2002 series) #22. Despite the cover, Captain America (Steve Rogers) does not appear and Sam and Bucky do not don their old Cap outfits.
