X-Force (Wolverine, Archangel,
Psylocke, Fantomex, Deadpool) meets, learning the details about the young hero
who was murdered by Jonathan Standish: his name was Daniel Chilton, 19, of
Madison, Wisconsin, who could create holograms and wanted to be an Avenger.
They also discover the death toll from Standish’s call to suicide: about 3000
in the USA, smaller numbers overseas. Archangel intimidates the captive
Purifier Benedict Ryan for more on Jonathan Standish. Ryan says he’s a surgeon…
…and we segue to Standish,
fighting disappointment that more people did not kill themselves, proving that
the devil is in control and they must step up their game. He realizes that
Garrity, the suicide bomber from issue #1, had the right idea….
X-Force are gathered in EVA,
awaiting Standish’s next incident. They begin to debate the morality of their
cause. Psylocke wonders if Standish is right and super-people are bringing on
the end of the world? Fantomex reminds her that “we’re the good guys” to which
Deadpool responds that he’s here to kill people. Then reports come of
Standish’s new terror: single Purifiers in body armor with high-tech weapons
firing randomly on crowds in ten American small towns. They split up and head
to several scenes….
Wolverine easily cuts down his
target. Deadpool faces his and the baddie detonates a suicide bomb. Psylocke
and Fantomex confront one in Missouri and Psylocke cuts the connection to his
bomb; her intent is to save his life than read his mind to discover Standish’s
location. But the bomb goes off anyway….
At his base, Jonathan Standish has
created a massive bomb, powered by the brains of eight Purifiers….
