Nomad (Ian Rogers) remembers how his
father Captain America/Steve Rogers told him to never give up...
Useful since he is in battle with this
world's version of himself, Captain Hydra/Leopold Zola. Leopold
wonders why his father would create a duplicate of him—as he
casually beats Ian to a pulp and breaks his spine. Leopold contacts
Arnim Zola who recognizes Ian from the police report and tells
Leopold to capture the stranger. But Ian is gone, having regenerated
his broken spine enough to escape into the sewers....
The badly wounded Ian is found in the
sewer by a young woman, who takes him back to the headquarters of the
resistance. Her compatriots, including Tony Stark and Hank Pym,
suspect a trick of Zola's and rebuke her for her poor judgment. Ian
tries taking the girl, Ellie, hostage but her parents, Steve Rogers
and Sharon Carter, arrive and don't recognize this young man as other
than Captain Hydra. Pym has his robot servant Lil' Ultron replay the
surveillance tapes that caught the battle between the two versions of
Ian. This still does not calm suspicions. Eventually Ian reveals
enough about Steve that he is willing to believe the newcomer's
sketchy story. Steve explains how Hydra destroyed the colonists
during the American Revolution and seized control; Steve, who was the
first Captain Hydra, revolted and became Captain America for the
resistance. They propose to use Ian in a plan to assassinate Arnim
Zola by playing on his resemblance to Leopold. Before they can begin,
however, a green and slimy Venom appears, having tracked Ian there
and he kills Tony Stark. Venom is followed by the Vipers, female
versions of the symbiote, who slaughter the rebels. Sharon tells Ian
to get Ellie to safety before she too dies. As the two young people
flee, Ellie is hit with spray from a symbiote. Venom gloats to the
captive (and sole rebel survivor of the battle) Steve Rogers that
Ellie will soon be infected and bring Ian to them....
