Synopsis

International Iron Man #6 synopsis by Rob Johnson
Rating: 3.5 stars
This is part 1 of the origin of Tony Stark's parents, and doesn't include TS/Iron Man in his own comic.

Amanda Strongarm is a young singer/songwriter (using the stagename Amanda Strong) doing a gig in Greenwich Village when she's approached by a woman with an offer of a recording contract. Except that the woman is Valentina Allegra De Fontaine, an Agent of SHIELD. The record deal is real, as is touring with her own band, but SHIELD want her to spy for them. It turns out Amanda's dead father was an Agent killed by AIM. As they leave we see that Agents Dum Dum Dugan and Gabe Jones were there too.

A year later she's performing with the band. After the gig she gets flowers with a note that leads her to a meeting with an Agent named Jude. He gives her a harmonica that she is to pass to a contact in Germany.

Then in the Indra club in Hamburg (which was the 1st German club the Beatles played at) she's attacked by a gunman after the harmonica (although he keeps asking for files). A flesh wound to the leg brings her down, and he's about to kill her when Jude appears and shoots him.

Amanda wakes in a hotel room where Jude is keeping her hidden. He says he came to Hamburg to see her play in that special venue, and was hoping for a date afterwards. But he discovered her cover was blown and came to save her.

And then the door gets blown in.

International Iron Man #6 Review by (August 25, 2016)
The solicitation blurb connects this to Civil War II. At least they weren't brazen enough to put the CWII banner on the cover.

Amanda is presumably telling Tony how she met his father.

The ever-moving start of the Marvel Age has rewritten the origin of SHIELD to involve Tony's father Howard rather than Tony himself. And because Nick Fury is tied to WWII then his involvement with the organisation now predates Tony's. And Agents Dugan and Jones were members of his WWII Howling Commandos so they now became Agents earlier than the Strange Tales run too. And as this issue makes clear they were Agents before Tony's birth.

And so too it seems was Fury's lover Contessa Val. Fury survived a long time due to the Infinity Formula. Gabe Jones got old and was killed in Secret Warriors #9. Dum Dum Dugan was replaced fairly early by a Life Model Decoy which is still going (or at least there have been a succession of them). But what's Val's excuse for not aging? Probably Nick shared the Infinity formula with her.
