Invincible Iron Man #245 Review by (August 29, 2017)
Comments: Part one of three parts. First appearance of FBI Agent Mallard, who will appear in the next two issues as well. And, after a long absence, the rocket-powered roller skates are back!

Review: Okay issue, especially with the “Iron Man being heroic” opening series of events and the battle with the Dreadnoughts is fun. Not really much else going on except setting up some future developments and keeping Kathy Dare fresh in our memories. The guest art team of Smith and Richardson is okay but the faces look kind of strange, with Tony on the last page resembling Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy (which would be an anachronism).

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Invincible Iron Man #245 Synopsis by T Vernon
With his new armor, Iron Man zips around, first protecting Stark trucks from being destroyed by an avalanche, then rescuing a derailed Stark train and pulling it to its destination, finally swooping down to catch a falling crane. He then returns to the lab and as Tony Stark has his machines dress him and place him in a specially designed hoverchair. Tony and James Rhodes meet with Felix Alvarez and talk over Iron Man's current high profile, sending a warning to the enemies who hired the Fixer to attack Stark Enterprises (last issue). Meanwhile, Felix brings word that Kathy Dare is going for the insanity defense at her trial for shooting Tony. Plus, there seems to be a link between the acts of sabotage going on against Stark's competitors. Rhodey thinks Tony is pushing himself too hard and persuades him to go to an Aspen ski resort...where Tony flirts with an attractive skier, but when she learns he is paralyzed, she begs off....

Felix gives Tony some reports that smuggling ships are being destroyed by mechanical monsters but the info is being covered up. Tony recognizes the Maggia Dreadnoughts so his old flame Whitney Frost a/k/a Madame Masque is sure to be involved. Tony contacts her on her private frequency but she brushes him off as though they had never meant anything to each other....

Tony goes to a trendy nightclub with the faithful Rae Lacoste but they are turned away on a flimsy pretext....

On patrol that night, Iron Man ends a gang fight with some low-level sonics when he hears there are mechanical monsters fighting police in the warehouse district. Shellhead goes over and beats the Dreadnoughts and is surprised to find Agent Mallard of the FBI has taken charge and the Agent sends Iron Man away; Tony is suspicious but leaves....

The next day he is visited by two FBI Agents but they are not there to talk about the warehouse battle but to ask him to identify a body found in the East River. Tony recognizes the woman in the photo as Whitney Frost....
