Synopsis

Invincible Iron Man #19 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars
Tony Stark, Director of SHIELD is informed of the Hulk’s ship approaching Earth and dispatches several Iron Man drones to investigate. Hulk sends a message by using his ship’s weaponry to disable then destroy the drones. Hulk then arrives in the skies over New York and issues his ultimatum to the city. Stark orders SHIELD to set up defenses only, not to engage the enemy. His deputy, Tim Dugan, balks at this decision, insisting that this is what SHIELD is for and that Tony has no business endangering himself to protect his people. While the city is being evacuated Stark dons his Hulkbuster armor and engages with the invader. He broadcasts a message during the battle that he takes full responsibility for the decision to send the Hulk into space and stands ready to suffer the consequences—which he does when the Hulk defeats him.

A tie-in the WORLD WAR HULK, this story takes place during the events of WWH #1. The issue is collected in WORLD WAR HULK: X-MEN.

Invincible Iron Man #19 Review by (February 15, 2010)
This issue and the next interrupt the ongoing Mandarin plot for World War Hulk. Christos Gage and Butch Guice take over for these 2 issues from the Knaufs and Roberto de la Torre. This issue runs in parallel with the whole of World War Hulk #1, showing it from a different perspective. Much of Hulk's ultimatum is repeated word-for-word, and Tony Stark's broadcast during the fight even more so. Tony Stark tells Dum Dum Dugan that unregistered heroes have an amnesty during this situation, as he agreed with Dr Strange in WWH#1, to help with the evacuation. We see Doc Savage, Luke Cage, Ms Marvel, She-Hulk, Spider-Man and maybe Wonder Man - as in WWH#1. We see Iron Man injecting Hulk with nanobots (SPIN tech from Avengers: Initiative) that he mentions in his broadcast here and in WWH#1. They should have suppressed Hulk's powers (presumably reverting him to Bruce Banner). AvIn#4 will tell us why they didn't work. This issue follows on from She-Hulk #17-18 and Hulk #106 where Stark depowered She-Hulk after she found out that the Illuminati sent Hulk into space. AvIn#4 explains that he has given Jen Walters her powers back temporarily for WWH. As well as tying intimately in to WWH#1, Iron Man also appears in AvIn#4, Hulk #107, WWH: Front Line #1 and Irredeemable Ant-Man #10 during this issue.
