Synopsis

Iron Man #12 synopsis by Rob Johnson
Rating: 4 stars
Korvac in a new android body is leading a band of villainous followers to Galactus' worldship Taa II to regain the cosmic power he once had. Iron Man was leading a band of heroes to stop him but got hijacked by Stilt-Man to a colony on a world of Ultimos. That situation got resolved by Tony Stark and an ally Avro-X last issue, and then the Living Tribunal popped up and sent the pair direct to Taa II. Galactus was not at home but his automatic defence system detected them.

Iron Man's AI scans for a control centre but the place is bigger than its scanning range, and Avro-X's suit is much more primitive. The system starts shooting at them and Colin Richard is wounded. As they fly away to escape they see 1 of Big G's Punisher robots being auto-assembled and it attacks them. When it discovers there are 2 opponents it morphs into 2 copies. IM manages to wreck 1 of them and then jets through the body of the other menacing A-X. But the robots self-destruct, blowing the heroes away.

When our duo recover they continue searching the huge spaceship. Along the way they chat about Manitoba, Colin's home Canadian Province. Colin recommends Churchill where you can see polar bears. Then a defence alarm tells them that a spaceship is approaching, but Stark doesn't know whether it's Korvac or *his* friends. He leaves Richard to hunt for the control centre while he heads for the docking bay, hitching a ride on a high-speed transport belt. Colin finds what looks like what he wants, but he can't understand the controls so just starts to wreck everything.

We see that it is Korvac and co in the approaching ship.  While Korvac and Unicorn dodge enemy fire Controller gains access to Taa II's computers and opens a bay door. But when they crashland inside they find the Golden Avenger waiting for them. Tony is surprised to find the android Human Torch with the bad guys, but Jim Hammond is controlled by 1 of the Controller's discs and attacks with fire. Avro-X joins the fray and Blizzard hits *him* with ice. Then Korvac incinerates him.

Angry Shellhead rips an android arm off Korvac and beats him with it, causing feedback. The minions attack. IM repulsor blasts HT and Blizzard but Unicorn's counter-blast knocks his faceplate off and the massive Controller punches Stark in the jaw. Tony, already with a broken neck bolstered by his armour and tanked up with morphine, is now out of the fight. Korvac orders them not to kill Stark because he wants his foe to witness his final success.

Then the cavalry arrives in *their* spaceship. Pilot War Machine detects IM's armour inside the giant structure. Hellcat can't understand how Tony got there from the Ultimo planet but she tells Rhodey to ignore the flak being thrown at them and drive straight at their boss and blast a way in. They wind up in the same hangar bay as Tony and Korvac.

Review / Commentaries

Iron Man #12 Review by (September 17, 2021)
A Punisher robot was 1st seen in Fantastic Four #49, the middle issue of the original Galactus Trilogy (long before Frank Castle took the name). They've cropped up in seberal other Galactus stories, and occasionally used by others such as the Rigellians in Iron Man #110.

The rest of Iron Man's crew Frog-Man, Gargoyle, Halcyon, Misty Knight and Scarlet Spider are seen in the background.
