Iron Man And The Armor Wars #2 Review by (February 25, 2022)
Comments: All Ages title. Cover title is IRON MAN: ARMOR WARS. Ivan Krushki was a member of the Exiles, allies of the Red Skull, in CAPTAIN AMERICA #102-104 and #115-118. Darkstar, Ursa Major, Gremlin, Hammer and Sickle are all recurring Russian heroes, members of various groups including the Soviet Super-Soldiers.

Review: A somewhat dark cover for an all-ages comic is made even darker by the sight of Tony Stark wearing Doctor Doom’s armor. Yikes! And on the inside there are even more Russian good guys and bad guys playing Iron Man against Stark.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Iron Man And The Armor Wars #2 Synopsis by T Vernon
In Russia, General Rostov, the Red Barbarian, learns that Fantasma has also failed to kill Tony Stark; Rostov starts plotting again….

In his office, Tony Stark realizes that he is talking to a Doombot, a robot representative of Doctor Doom, that is there to offer assistance. Downstairs, Jim Rhodes arrives and Pepper Potts fills him in on the attack by Iron Man while Congressman Wyndham accuses Stark of treason and wants Pepper and Rhodey arrested as accomplices. Rhodey gets a call from Tony to meet him at a certain location and then Tony, wearing the Doom armor, flies out of the building and into the distance….

Later, Rhodey picks up Tony in a jet borrowed from the Marines. Tony explains his plan: get close enough to each suit of armor and shut it down and he has rigged up a tracking device to find them….

At Fort Knox, Ivan Krushki breaks in wearing the (semi-)original gold armor. Tony takes him on in the Doom armor and shuts him down….

Under the sea, an American submarine is attacked by the Gremlin and Ursa Major (in human form) wearing the Peacekeeper armor; they rip the sub open and recover something from a locked compartment….

At FBI headquarters in Washington, Congressman Wyndham demands that Stark, Potts, and Rhodes be arrested while Agent Keith Dekker, who served in the Marines with Rhodey, wants to talk to Rhodey to learn what is really going on. Then they are attacked by three more Iron Men: Darkstar in the Stealth Armor, Hammer in the War Machine suit, and Sickle in Armor Mark 2. They battle the Army and suddenly the Mark 1 golden armor arrives, with Tony Stark inside, and he battles the three interlopers. Tony tricks Hammer and Sickle into knocking each other out then he rescues Darkstar from an army shell, surprising her. His boot jets damaged, he then picks up Sickle and uses the Mark 2 jets to take off….

In Russia, General Rostov is angry at his agents’ failure to kill Tony Stark but he is delighted again when Gremlin and Ursa Major deliver the mysterious object taken from the American sub, which Rostov refers to as the greatest weapon Russia ever produced….

In the air, Tony tells Rhodey he let Darkstar go so he could track her back to the Russian base. Rhodey confesses that the “borrowed” plane was actually stolen, which explains why a military helicopter is firing rockets at them….
