Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Iron Man Noir #3 Synopsis by T Vernon
A Nazi submarine has fired a torpedo which blows up the Lady Dorma. But beneath the ship there lay a secret: an advanced submarine which is Namor’s primary craft. Tony Stark and James Rhodes join Namor and his crew in escaping the torpedo and they head to safety. Tony, wracked by guilt, suffers a heart attack….

He dreams of his childhood and his father’s madness after being broken in a German POW camp during the Great War….

Tony awakens aboard the Stark airship, Jarvis giving him the charge that reanimates his heart. Tony confesses to Rhodey that he is a coward, concerned only about himself. Rhodey confesses that he can’t take the fear and uncertainty any longer and has secured another position, in Paris. Tony tells Jarvis to turn the airship around, he must redeem himself by rescuing Pepper and recovering the orichalcum. Jarvis reveals that Tony’s heart won’t stand much more stress, about four hours at most with a booster charge. They trace the Nazis to a remote castle where they are awaiting the arrival of a larger complement of soldiers to escort them and the orichalcum to Berlin. Tony takes the full charge and prepares for action….

In the castle, Pepper Potts is being lashed by Gialetta Nefaria while Baron Strucker tells her about the castle’s previous owner, who went mad fighting the Nazis, believing he was the mighty Thor….

Tony and Rhodey, wearing suits of Howard Stark’s armor, drop into the castle and begin battling the soldiers with powerful weaponry. When they reach the dungeon where Pepper is held, Tony is clobbered by an even bigger, bronze colored armor—Arsenal. He can’t understand how the Nazis got hold of his father’s designs. So Baron Zemo shows him—unmasking to reveal the face of Howard Stark….
