Synopsis

Marc Spector, Moon Knight #43 synopsis by Rob Johnson
Rating: 4 stars
Last issue Moon Knight took time out from Infinity War #4 to chase his Doppelganger Moon Shade through the multiverse and finally kill him. But not before the bad guy absorbed all the other variants of MK in other timelines. So Marc Spector is now the only Moon Knight in the multiverse. Now he returns to his own timeline at the foot of Four Freedoms Plaza and remote-calls his Angelwing plane to take him back up to the destroyed top floor of the Fantastic Four's HQ where many other heroes are fighting a never-ending stream of *their* Dops.

But we'd rather look in on Frenchie in MK's Shadowkeep HQ, who's worried about the illness that is taking over his boss's body. He consults Mercy, the Shadow Council's medical consultant, who has determined that the infection came from a wound inflicted (sometime within #31-33) by Hobgoblin (who himself had been possessed by a demon during the Inferno event). The disease affected his skin but is now attacking his nervous system. She gives him a week to live. Frenchie then contacts other members of the Shadow Council to discuss how to get hold of Hobgoblin.

Moon Knight fights Dops of Black Knight and Beast.

Then we have another interlude in an ancient monastery in a remote Scottish village, which has been upgraded with modern defences and hosts a meeting of 5 Knights Templar. They face an attack from within, and 1 of their number insists that they must seek the help of Jean Paul DuChamp (ie Frenchie).

Moon Knight continues fighting Dops of Darkhawk and Daredevil. Then he gets surrounded by multiple Dops.

Back to Frenchie and the Shadow Cabinet. Since his encounter with MK Hobgoblin split into 2 beings, himself and the demonic Demogoblin (in Web Of Spider-Man #86). Hobgoblin has gone to ground (mainly because he's now powerless), but Demogoblin's in jail. So they plan to bust him out. Afterwards Jean Paul contemplates Marc Spector's instructions in the event of his death.

Finally we see all the Doppelgangers drop dead and no more replacements arrive. (This is due to an action by Galactus in IW#4.) In #41 Psylocke discovered something in MK's head and once again Gambit tries to tell him about it. But then they all go into stasis. (This is caused by Magus in IW#4 again.)

Review / Commentaries

Marc Spector, Moon Knight #43 Review by (November 26, 2021)
This is a tie-in to the Infinity War mini-series connecting to IW#4.

1 of the Knights Templar here is called DeMolay, and Jacques de Molay was officially the last Grand Master of the order. Another is called Chretien. I know of no Templar with that name but maybe it was chosen because of Chretien de Troyes, author of Arthurian tales.

Next issue is also an official tie-in to IW but the event ends a few pages in. However Moon Knight does get some help with his demonic illness from the assembled heroes before they all go their own ways.
