Marvel's Voices Infinity Comic #6 Review by (April 20, 2024)
This story arc, while following an overarching plot, continues to explore the pasts of various ex-Young Avengers.

This time it's the story of how Hulkling was the son of the Skrull Princess Anelle and the Kree Captain Mar-Vell, the 1st Captain Marvel (at least in the Marvel universe). She met him when he was a Skrull captive during the Kree/Skrull War. Their romance was completely behind the scenes in Avengers #94-97 and was only revealed (invented) in Young Avengers #10-11 as the origin of Hulkling. Those issues also revealed how how Anelle got Antalya (there referred to only by her Earth name Mary-Jo Altman because the name Antalya is only invented here) to take the baby to his father on Earth. By the time of these issues Mar-Vell was long dead and the Road To Empyre 1-shot confirmed that Antalya got to Earth too late.

There was always a timeline problem here. Antalya would have to take some time to get from Andromeda to Earth in order to miss the remainder of Captain Marvel's career. Absolutely nowhere *near* the time it would really take, but significantly longer than the almost instantaneous time it usually takes Marvel chars to cross the universe (via wormhole as RTE says she did it, but then Empyre: Aftermath Avengers says the wormhole took them through time as well as space). And afterwards there still has to be time for Teddy Altman to grow from a baby to a late teen.

This problem is exacerbated by Marvel's Sliding Timescale which says that Fantastic Four #1 always happened about 15 years before the current date (to stop chars getting too old). Because the Kree/Skrull War occurred some time after the beginning there isn't time for Teddy to be 20 now (or to be a late teen during YA vol 1).

This issue is I think the 1st to say explicitly that time-travel caused Antalya and baby Hulkling to arrive on Earth 20 years ago, therefore before FF#1 and before Captain Marvel's whole career. So they didn't arrive too late and they lived through the CM era without Mrs Altman ever doing anything about it.

Here we also learn that it was the M'Kraan fragment's intervention that caused the time-travel and so it is responsible for Hulkling being part of the Young Avengers. Ie it is causing the 616 timeline as we know it to happen as it does. The following issues may show how this fulfils its mandate from Iron Lad last issue to stop Kristoff Vernard's takeover of the multiverse.

Lauri-Ell is the half-sister of Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) as revealed during the Empyre event. CM temporarily became Prime Accuser, and then Lauri-Ell took over the job in E:AA.

Mur-G'nn was 1 of the Kree/Skrull hybrid Knights Of The Infinite in New Avengers vol 4.

Wiccan is destined to become the Demiurge as described in YAv v2 and NAv v4.

Hulkling & Wiccan's apps last issue and here follow their own 4-issue Infinity Comic and were published at the same time as their involvement in the Fantastic Four's Reckoning War event. They will be quickly followed by a sequel to their IC in Love Unlimited Infinity Comic #25-30.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Marvel's Voices Infinity Comic #6 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
Last issue we saw that grown-up Kristoff Vernard had used a fragment of the M'Kraan Crystal to conquer Chronopolis in Limbo, intending to then conquer all realities. But Iron Lad sacrificed himself to take the fragment off him and send it to Universe-616 to other ex-Young Avengers to arrange for Kristoff's defeat. We saw it arrive in the present-day Kree/Skrull Alliance ruled by Hulkling and Wiccan but also bring baby Hulkling and his 'mother' through a wormhole to that time and space as well.

We now continue from that last part, set in the Genitrix System in the 12-Star Nebula (within the Andromeda Galaxy) which has been invaded by the Brood. The Skrull Imperial Cruiser Kho'Pesh requests sanctuary and repeats that it has the Prince of the Skrull Empire, the infant son of Captain Mar-Vell, on board. Last issue Teddy Altman recognised the voice of the woman he called mother. Now he and his husband Billy Kaplan are rushing to greet the ship with Kree Prime Accuser Lauri-Ell and the Kree/Skrull hybrid wizard Mur-G'nn. Billy fears a trick but Teddy remembers back to his boyhood with his 'human' mom. She read him a story when he was a baby about a beautiful princess who fell in love with a noble warrior and they had a son. She brought him up alone with love. And she died in flames revealed as a Skrull.

On the way the Accuser reports that the Brood are still infesting the lower decks of their ship but that since the portal opened they've become panicked rather than aggressive. They reach the airlock where the Skrull ship is docked and meet the Skrull female carrying the infant. She announces herself as Antalya the Sun-Clothed, Votaress of the Cloisters of Ny'ni-Ahn, Prelate-Countess of the Forgotten Moon and sworn Battle-Maiden to Princess Anelle of the Skrull Imperial House of Dorrek. And we see the baby is Kree pink with varying patches of Skrull green.

The meeting is interrupted by a Brood warrior that came on board with her ship. It leaps to attack and wraps Mur-G'nn in a tentacle. Emperor Hulking tells his Wizard husband to cast a spell and Lauri-Ell to 'distract' it with her 'hammer' (Universal Weapon) while he attacks it with his magic sword. However Antalya spares them the trouble by blasting a big hole through the Brood with her gun. And Lauri-Ell passes on reports from their fleet that the Brood's living spaceships, the Acanti spacewhales, have revolted against their masters.

Hulkling checks that Mur-G'nn is unharmed. The Skrull visitor tells them that as they passed through a wormhole from the Andromeda Galaxy to find Captain Mar-Vell an anomaly caused by a strange gem diverted them to here and into what she now realises is the future. She recognises that Hulkling is her infant child grown up and that Wiccan is his chosen life-partner. So she hands the baby to Billy. But it turns Skrull green and shapeshifts to have wings, and is strong enough to lift him into the air by his hair. Billy manages to get the baby to hold him by the hand instead and together they head off to 'fix space'. Surrounded by a magic forcefield they approach the gem floating in space where the whales are singing. Billy senses that it is searching for a fault in time, and is pulling people along with it to try to correct something. But the baby just tries to eat it. However the gem opens another portal to Earth-616 20 years ago which Wiccan knows is where/when Teddy will grow up. And the Acanti 'swim' through it.

Antalya calls Hulking by his regal name Dorrek, which she never used while she brought him up on Earth. But she is glad to see what he has grown into. His mother Princess Anelle sent him away to spare him the burden of royalty but Antalya always figured it would find him anyway. She's just glad that he also found happiness - she likes Billy. Teddy tells her that she *will* like him. But he also has to tell her that she never finds his father Captain Mar-Vell. She sees that as her failure but he assures her that she never failed him as a 'mother'.

Billy and the baby return with the Crystal shard. Billy tells them that the portal is closing so Antalya must take baby Teddy through it. Teddy asks if it's safe but Antalya says that his existence here proves it is. He starts to tell her how the Super-Skrull kills her but she doesn't want to know. They say their goodbyes and Antalya's ship goes through the gateway. And the Crystal goes with it. And the Brood have all run away too. Wiccan, Mur-G'nn and Lauri-Ell leave the Emperor to come to terms with what happened.

Mur-G'nn says that Billy seems perturbed by something. He tells her that when he touched the Crystal it spoke to him - just 1 word "Demiurge".
