Review: Big Marvel special is essentially a volume of teasers for new and relaunched series. As such it's nice but nonessential as sharp readers could pick up the plots easily from the first issues of the upcoming titles. The strangest thing is the return of Star Brand (Starbrand in this issue) which was the lead character of Marvel's short-lived 1980s New Universe; he has since shown up in Jonathan Hickman's Avengers run and Quasar and a few other places. And the gang at the beginning is apparently Avengers 1,000,000 BC and they will be seen again.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Marvel Legacy #1 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

An unidentified narrator muses on the importance of legacy while multiple stories commence:

In the Stone Age, several heroes gather. They are Odin (still trying to bend Mjolnir to his will), Phoenix, the first Black Panther, the first Iron Fist, the first Starbrand, the first Ghost Rider, and Agamotto the first Sorcerer Supreme. They battle a Celestial which has fallen to Earth....

Robbie Reyes, the current Ghost Rider suddenly finds himself in Capetown South Africa, attacked by Starbrand to keep him away from an archaeological dig....

In Jotunheim, Loki dispatches a band of Frost Giants through a portal to recover a crate marked 4-1939. They arrive at a SHIELD storage facility and kill many of the agents there when Thor (Jane Foster) and Captain America (Sam Wilson) crash in through the wall, followed shortly by a tardy Ironheart....

Steve Rogers, on an anonymous trip across America, ponders how easily a legacy can slip away....

As Thor Odinson wallows in a tavern, an Asgardian vizier mutters “Mangog is coming” and dies....

Mary Jane Watson is informed that the comatose Tony Stark is missing....

Ghost Rider and Starbrand battle in the South African countryside, drawing nearer to the archaeological dig. Star kills the guards but the scientists keep digging....

Police have Deadpool trapped in a public rest room, as he is wanted for the murder of Phil Coulson. The cops open fire but 'Pool doesn't care....

Dr Strange and Iron Fist discover that someone has tried to enter the Sanctum Sanctorum; Norman Osborn rushes off in the shadows....

Looking out the window of Avengers Mansion, Jarvis feels something is wrong but can't isolate it [we see that the Avengers group statue has a female figure that isn't Wasp]....

Thor, Cap, and Ironheart make quick work of the Frost Giants. The leader orders a giant named Snarr to seize the crate and rush it back to Loki....

The Thing and Human Torch stand atop the Baxter Building and think about their legacy....

We learn there is an Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda....

The Alpha Flight Deep Space Monitoring System receives a message from the planet Sakaar begging Hulk to return....

Ghost Rider unleashes the Penance Stare (which this GR has never done before) and apparently kills Starbrand. At the dig, the scientists uncover the Celestial buried since the Stone Age....

Snarr, carrying Crate 4-1939, is hit by a truck; he challenges the driver to a fight. The driver pops a set of claws with a familiar “snikt”....

Jean Grey visits the grave of Wolverine only to find it burst open....

Having killed the Frost Giant, Wolverine opens the crate an Infinity Stone....

Loki gives up the Infinity Stone as lost and so visits the buried Celestial....

Out in space, the unnamed narrator is revealed to be Valeria Richards, exploring with her brother Franklin, and desiring to explore her home universe....
