Synopsis

Marvel Universe vs. Wolverine (2011 series) #2 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3.5 stars

Wolverine returns to the lab where Reed Richards and Hank Pym have an update on the spread of the pathogen: it has been traced to a Russian gene therapy called, in English, Survivor 118, designed to help survivors of a nuclear war adapt to the changed conditions. A shipment was brought into the US by the Russian Mafia but they were killed by a familiar method so Logan goes out in search of the Punisher. Logan even passes up a battle between various heroes and villains as a distraction for his main mission. Logan comes upon Punisher, Taskmaster, and Hawkeye fighting predators and joins in; when the battle is over, Logan questions Castle who describes his hit on the Russians, thinking he was stopping the import of nuclear materials, and his exposure to the pathogen which gave him an immunity. Logan reports back that all of the pathogen is gone, washed away after Castle’s hit; Reed realizes that the only source of it now is in the Punisher’s body and asks Logan to bring him in whether he wants to come or not. Castle grudgingly agrees to come in to donate blood and tissue samples when they come upon Electro fighting Magneto and they are attacked by a gang of predators. The clash of electricity and magnetism creates an EMP that shuts down the city. They make it to the darkened Baxter Building and find the severed head of Willie Lumpkin impaled on a stake. Further along they discover Reed Richards stretched out of shape in a stairway landing. In the lab, Spider-Man and Beast have killed and eaten Hank Pym. There is a fight and Punisher blows Beast’s head off but Spider-Man escapes. And then a monstrous Thing arrives, with Thundra and Red She-Hulk, also turned to predators….
