Synopsis

Marvelous Adventures of Gus Beezer: X-Men, The (2003 series) #1 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3.5 stars

Gus Beezer and his friends get in trouble for putting on a classroom skit as the X-Men then the class hamster jumps onto the teacher’s hair, causing her to faint. Gus then throws water on her….

That night at dinner, as his parent discuss the incident, Gus is accused of throwing brussels sprouts at his Mom and grounded. He runs around his room, pretending to be Wolverine until Magneto (Mom) orders him to clean it up. When he’s done, he calls to Mom to come see but in the seconds it takes for her to arrive, the room is a mess again….

Gus then tells his friends he’s a mutant even as Dunbar points out all of the goofs in his X-Men play. Meanwhile, the X-Men arrive in town—Professor X, Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Wolverine, because Cerebro has revealed the existence of a mutant in town. They visit Gus’ home and he’s certain they have come for him—so certain that it takes a long time to attract his attention so Professor X can reveal that it’s his baby sister Tillie, who has levitation powers (explaining the brussels sprouts and messy room incidents). They assure Gus that they aren’t there to take her away, just to make sure she’s safe. Logan gives Gus his jacket, making him an honorary mutant and Jean kisses him on the cheek before they leave….

One month later, Gus is calling the police to take Tillie away…if not the Sentinels….

Gus shows off a comic book he wrote and drew, “Astonishing Tales of Mysteriousness.” The city is in turmoil and once Gus gets his mother’s permission to go out, it’s Marvel Kid and Marvel Dog to the rescue. They discover that the menace is Gus’ baby sister Tillie grown into a giant, eating everything she can get her hands on. Marvel Kid has Marvel Dog eat an entire swimming pool full of dog food so that he grows into a giant and distracts Tillie from eating. Review / Commentaries

Marvelous Adventures of Gus Beezer: X-Men, The (2003 series) #1 Review by (January 29, 2025)

Review: Gus returns in the least of his comics, with a disorganized plot and the usual weak art. And the idea that his parents will never find out their baby is a mutant is an absurd one, though common for a kids’ comic.

Comments: Third Gus Beezer comic, following SPIDER-MAN and HULK and followed by GUS BEEZER & SPIDER-MAN. The second story runs along the bottom of the main story.
