Phil Sheldon looks back at the coming of the Marvels: At that time, he was considering
getting out of the business as he felt nothing new was happening. He went for a
job interview with the Bulletin and found out they were a tabloid that
specialized in sensationalism and wanted him to fake photos to accompany
questionable stories. And then word came of the disappearances of nuclear
reactors around the world. Phil was sent with Ben Urich to a press conference
in Washington where the world was introduced to the Fantastic Four. And
everything changed: Phil was excited again as new heroes and villains filled
the public stage and he was there to photograph them. At the same time, he was
also dealing with his daughter Jenny doing poorly in school and he discovered
she needed glasses while his daughter Bethie had nightmares from seeing the
Thing on TV. While people debated the rise of the Marvels, Phil detected a
change in the air, the national mood. Years later, he goes back to where it all
started, the launching pad for the rocket that took the soon-to-be FF into
space as a memory for his files. And then Phil goes to the doctor and learns he
has lung cancer….
