Chapter Three: The Devil We Know

Synopsis

One World Under Doom (2025 series) #3 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

The Avengers meet with the Masters of Evil in their Impossible City headquarters. After some bickering and exchange of insults, they get down to business: Trying to bring down Doctor Doom, ruler of Earth. Captain Marvel outlines a plan to fight Doom but Mysterio points out that they have already failed to overthrow Doom twice, why would this third attempt work? Because this one is merely a distraction: while the bulk of the combined team are fighting Doom in Latveria, the three magical ones, Scarlet Witch, Baron Mordo, and Madelyne Pryor, will be investigating the world’s leaders, to find out what hold Doom has over them and to free them from it, thus destroying Doom’s hold over them….

And so the combined team arrives at the Latverian border and tries to break through the magical shield surrounding it. Doom arrives atop his Doomified T Rex and the hidden members of the team are revealed, Arcade shooting a radioactive bullet and Mysterio unveiling a big metal shredder. And then the combined Avengers and Masters of Evil hit Doom with everything they’ve got—and it doesn’t move him. Then Wanda contacts the Avengers to tell them what they have discovered: that Doom was not mind controlling world leaders or replacing them with Doombots; he merely negotiated to give them what they most wanted in exchange for their support. Doom’s only use of magic was to be in multiple places at once to carry out these negotiations efficiently. Then Doom has some news for them: there is a mass breakout at the Raft, the prison for supervillains So they have a choice: continue fighting Doom or do something that actually helps people. He then teleports them all to the Raft….

One World Under Doom (2025 series) #3 Review by (April 23, 2025)

Review: And the hits keep coming. The big plan the Avengers had been working on since issue #1 finally comes to pass and it’s another disaster. The prospect of Doom battling Dormammu is an exciting one though it will likely end in another victory for Doom. We’re still seeing Doom’s successes (and the dimwitted heroes’ failures) at this time. Issue #4 should end with the first chink in his armor (no pun intended) and the momentum will carry us through to the end of the epic. It’s enjoyable so far.

Comments: Title comes from the saying, “better the devil you know than the devil you don't,” noting that is it preferable to deal with a known quality than to risk the unknown.
