Synopsis

Red Hulk (2025 series) #9 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Thunderbolt Ross has a private meeting with a US Senator on a park bench at the National Mall in Washington DC. The previous night, as Red Hulk, Ross used the Washington Monument as a spear to shoot down a Hulkbuster aircraft. The Senator reveals that Simon Ryker was not found in the wreckage. Ross passes her a USB flash drive with all the data downloaded from the Project Alpha servers along with everything recorded by Tamika (Wildstreak) Bowden’s smart glasses, to build a case against Ryker. Ross’ assignment is to capture Ryker alive. At this point it is revealed that Ryker had a device from Doctor Doom that allowed him to teleport out of the Hulkbuster at the right moment….

Three days later, Ross and his team (Deathlok, Machine Man, Wildstreak), poorly disguised, board a train in Hungary to go to Latveria. A conductor comes into their compartment, asking to see their tickets. They tell him a conductor has already been there so the man reveals he is a robot, attacking Ross and trying to put an inhibitor collar on him, chanting, “You have committed treason against Latveria. You are enemies of Doom. You will be executed.” Wildstreak takes it on, smashes it to pieces and hurls it out the window. The team plans to get off the train but their way is blocked by more robots. So Ross and he team fight their way down to corridor. Their cover blown, Ross transforms into Red Hulk and tears the train in half, the front with the bad guys disappearing into the distance while the half with Rulk and the team comes to a halt. Rulk tears up a utility pole, using it as a weapon to swat the flying robots out of the air. Learning they are only 24 kilometers from their objective, Rulk picks up the half a train car with his allies and leaps away….

They arrive at a safe house, prepared by Ross years earlier for just such an occasion. The team arm themselves from the supply found there while Ross announces they will cross the border when the moon sets at zero hundred….

In Latveria, a hologram Doctor Doom tells Ryker that Ross is coming for him. Ryker responds that he is ready for him, revealing he has an army of Red Hulk mutates….

Red Hulk (2025 series) #9 Review by (October 1, 2025)

Review: The epic continues, starting with a couple of old people sitting in a park, covering the surprise that we’re about to see what Red Hulk did with the Washington Monument after last issue’s epic final page. There’s a lot of fighting with robots to occupy the page count while a showdown with Simon Ryker looms. Doctor Doom will be safe as his comeuppance won’t be in this title but in the event’s central miniseries. New artist Gabriel Guzman is a bit heavy in the inking but he more than makes up for it with the train corridor fight, reminiscent of the famous fight scene from OLDBOY or one of the battles it inspired in the Netflix DAREDEVIL series. And it is centered between two more action sequences, Wildstreak versus the robot and Red Hulk tearing the train in half. This largely action-oriented series really delivers.

Comments: Bannered “ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM” as a tie-in to that event.
