Hulk, carrying a gravely wounded Jim Wilson, stops by a lake and bemoans his helplessness. Then he sees military copters coming and Thunderbolt Ross steps out from behind a rock, trying to appeal to the inner Bruce Banner, saying they only want to help Jim. Hulk wants to smash Ross but Jim pleads with him not to. Hulk allows his friend to be taken to a hospital. Ross stays behind, hoping to persuade Hulk to return peacefully. But a nervous soldier in a copter panics when he thinks Hulk might harm Ross and fires. Hulk, thinking he has been tricked, hurls a boulder, wrecking a copter then leaps away. Hulk reaches the West Coast and silently boards a ship, hiding himself inside a huge crate….

The ship eventually reaches the Mediterranean, unloading the cargo at Vastopol, seaport of the mountainous nation of Morvania, where it is trucked to the capital. The nation is ruled by the dictator Vaclav Draxon, who has bought weapons to further his scheme of conquering all Europe. As the crates are unloaded at the palace, Hulk is awakened and is irritable. Draxon asks Hulk to be his partner in his scheme of conquest but the confused giant refuses so Draxon has his army fire upon him with every weapon they have, blasting him though the wall and off a cliff. A very angry Hulk returns and smashes the army and their weapons. The rest of the army is summoned; seeing them rushing to the palace, resistance leader Isaac Maisel deduces that something momentous is going on and hurries to assemble the other rebels….

At the palace, Hulk seizes Draxon in his hands but decides the dictator is not worth smashing and tosses him aside before announcing his plans to stay in the country for a while and leaping off….

In a forest clearing, Isaac’s daughter Rachel is picking flowers by a lake when the Hulk comes upon her….

Review / Commentaries

The Incredible Hulk #133 Review by (February 15, 2010)
This is an important plot thickener to a turnkey issue called "Comes the Golem". As per the story, a typical peek at the life of the Hulk. I mean, how often is it that old surly Ross comes around anyway? He seemed to be hankering for an election in this one, he had his diplomatic duds on. And the darn soldiers just got weak in the stomach and easy on the trigger. Boom that's all it takes to create a rift between two totally different people (or creatures). Anyways, the green giant finds himself face to mug with the sourest of personas, a madman despot (Draxon). With his army and his evil mind, he would consume all righteousness and stand on the last squealing decency of mankind. But he just met the Hulk who can often change the fate of the day more than the weather in tornado alley! There is a build up involving some locals of Morvania which grabs the reader's curiousity for the next issue. Roy Thomas sets the tone in this one; I can just feel the chilly draft of the "Cold War" period.
