(c) the whole project is about a Gamma laser (not a Gamma bomb);

(d) Thunderbolt Ross is who decides not to stop the countdown;

Thomas relates how he met the Hulk. He was working as an ice cream vendor at the beach and the local bully Stephen was harassing him in front of Beth, a girl he liked. Then Hulk appeared on the scene, terrifying everyone on the beach; Stephen fled, Beth was scared. But Thomas offered Hulk ice cream and the Big Green Guy liked it, eventually eating all of Thomas’ stock. Beth decided to go to the dance with Thomas and Hulk leapt away in search of beans…. And here we discover that Thomas is in the hospital, his body covered with bandages, because when Hulk leapt away the vibrations caused the lifeguard station to collapse on Thomas and Beth went to the dance with Stephen. Then the attendants come in and discover that Thomas’ roommate is dead. As they take him away, the doctor tells Thomas that this guy met Hulk too. Later, the doctor tells his assistant that this other guy did indeed meet Hulk…Hogan the wrestler which excited him so much his heart went bad.

And we see Hulk was reading this story and wondering where Dennis the Menace is (note the story title)….

Incredible Hulk Annual, The (1976 series) #24 Review by (September 9, 2025)

Review: First story: It’s a familiar tale, this time via the pen of John Byrne. And unlike most of the rehashes of INCREDIBLE HULK #1, this one takes the story all the way to the end, moving beyond the basics of Hulk’s origin (and he’s gray here, retconning the first retcon) to his battle with the Gargoyle who now has a Skrull ally. Rick Jones’ part is expanded and we get a more detailed account of how he happened to be on the firing range that day—not that anyone was wondering. So…Byrne’s script gives us another entertaining angle on Hulk’s origin and Lee Weeks’ art has a slight echo of Kirby to it without being a copy.

Second Story: It’s a silly little romp by Fred Hembeck. Amusing as far as it goes. If you like Hembeck, you’ll like this.

Comments: First story: Julio’s synopsis also serves as his comments.

Second story: Fred Hembeck. ‘Nuff said.

Includes an illustration of Iron Man by John Cassaday and Bullpen Bits by Chris Giarusso.
