Synopsis

The Invaders #8 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

The Invaders (Captain America, Bucky Barnes, Sub-Mariner, Human Torch, Toro) have a nice dinner at the home of Lord Falsworth, along with his daughter Jacqueline Falsworth and nephew John, who is secretly the vampire Baron Blood. Torch is seething because Jacqueline is paying attention to Cap. His Lordship relates how he first encountered the Baron in World War I as the hero Union Jack. He had been summoned to the Prime Minister's office where he was given the assignment to track down a serial killer who seemed to be a vampire. After several nights of searching he finally spotted his quarry atop a bridge, planning to ambush a VIP passing below. The two fought and the vampire escaped; a few weeks later the war ended and there was no rematch. Jacqueline is upset at the war talk and His Lordship explains that it was because her mother was killed in the Blitz. The Invaders make plans to capture Baron Blood....

The following Night, the Invaders start patrolling London, looking for their bloodthirsty quarry. Torch and Toro spot Baron Blood among the barrage balloons but it's a trap: a bomb explodes hurling the two heroes to the ground and snuffing their flames. Namor spots Blood under the water but it turns out to be a mechanical decoy spewing poison gas to lay Subby low. Cap and Bucky find the real Baron Blood who easily knocks them out....

The Invaders wake up to find themselves trapped in an electrified net, with Baron Blood gloating. And then Union Jack appears...challenging the vampire to battle. Blood seizes Jack's pistol to shoot him with but instead it sprays silver dust into Blood's face. The vampire flees; Union Jack releases the captives and asks to join the Invaders—but what will Jacqueline say when she learns her father is risking his life...?

Review / Commentaries

The Invaders #8 Review by (July 30, 2018)

Review: And as with Cap in the previous issue, here Union Jack reveals that he was growing tired of war back during the first one. But their tones of voice sicken Jacqueline, who lost her mother to the War, finding the hints of glory unbearable. Again, a nice entertaining story from when comics were fun with some low-key attention to serious issues.

Comments: Part two of three parts. The British Prime Minister in World War I was David Lloyd George.
