Among the pyramids, Human Torch and
Sub-Mariner battle the demi-god Scarlet Scarab, who wants the British
out of Egypt. The two Invaders are unable to harm their enemy. On the
other hand, SS is able to snuff out Torch's flames and slam Namor to
the ground. Scarab buries his fallen foes under a stone pile and
heads off to aid the
Nazis.…
On the battlefield, Union Jack and
Spitfire, followed by Captain America, have inspired the overwhelmed
Brits to counterattack. Seeing Scarlet Scarab flying overhead, the
Invaders worry about their teammates and hurry back to the pyramids.
There, they help free Namor and Torch and Namor fills them in on the
plot, adding that the ruby scarab is the source of the villain's
abilities, giving him the powers of whomever he is fighting....
Behind enemy lines, Scarlet Scarab
offers his aid to the Nazi cause; the Germans take up his offer,
plotting to betray him when he is no longer of use to them. SS leads
the next offensive against the British and the Invaders are there to
face him. Scarlet Scarab seeks out Namor, who is weakening under the
desert heat and carries him off, keeping him hostage until he can
learn whether he can trust the Nazi general. He gets his answer on
the next page when the General is about to kill an elderly peasant
and his daughter for their defiance. Scarlet Scarab begins tearing
his way through the German forces, followed by the Invaders,
including Namor who has dipped himself into a handy well. Driving off
the enemy, Scarlet Scarab assures the heroes that this does not mean
he is now on “their” side but will return to fight anyone who
threatens his country and flies off....
Epilogue: Bucky Barnes arrives at the
California office of Dr Sam Sabuki, the only surgeon who can save
Toro's life and finds it empty. He learns that all of the
Japanese-Americans have been taken away to internment camps....
