Story Name:

Five Against the Flying Death!

Synopsis

The Invaders #30 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 2.5 stars

Der Fliegentod (The Flying Death) is a Nazi war machine wreaking havoc in England and the Invaders (Captain America, Human Torch, Sub-Mariner, Spitfire, Union Jack) are there to take it down. When the Nazi craft crashes into a building, Namor puts his flagship on auto-pilot and prevents the tower from falling. Human Torch shoots down the enemy shells in mid-air while Cap, Spitfire, and Union Jack invade the ship itself by smashing a window and entering the control room. The heroes hold their own against superior numbers until the Teutonic Knight stops them by threatening to kill his hostage, Dr Barrows. The Knight explains his plan: the Fliegentod will occupy the military while Baron Strucker will lead his Blitzkrieg Squad to capture Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery who are holding a secret meeting in that very town. The heroes then easily clobber the baddies but the ship begins to plummet, the experimental fuel Radium-X having lost its potency. Spitfire leaps overboard and, with the Torch, creates a column of superheated air to slow the craft's descent, with Namor easing it to the ground with his superior strength. Teutonic Knight is turned over to the military while the Invaders rush to save the leaders. They come upon Strucker and his gang about to spring their trap and easily nab them, likewise handing them over to British guards. Churchill thanks them personally.

Review / Commentaries

The Invaders #30 Review by (January 8, 2019)

Review: Mediocre issue is brought down by its mediocre villains, Teutonic Knight, a boasting but helpless fanatic, and Baron Strucker, usually dependable but here about as formidable as a stuffed poodle. All the real excitement is in fighting the equally shoddy Fliegentod whose biggest danger turns out to be breaking down and plummeting from the sky.

Comments: Part two of two parts. After this, Teutonic Knight is seen only in flashbacks in SAGA OF THE SUB-MARINER #5 and ALL-NEW INVADERS #4.
