Synopsis

Mighty Thor, The (2015 series) #15 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4.5 stars

The faithful Heimdall stands guard at the gate of Asgardia when he is attacked by Gladiator of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard on a mission from the gods. Heimdall is determined to repel the invader....

Cul Borson, Odin's brother/regent, presents the gravely ill Jane Foster (she's a Senator in the Congress of Worlds with an apartment in Asgardia) with an ultimatum: heal from her cancer, resign from the Congress, or die—but Cul is going to replace her as the representative from Midgard with a lackey of his own choosing. Cul and his followers are notified of the invasion of Asgardia and to their horror, a badly-beaten Heimdall lands on a heap of rubble nearby. Both Cul and Gladiator summon additional forces and a battle is on. Then with a flash of lightning, Thor arrives on the field—and Gladiator is pleased: he attacks her and catches her by the neck, ordering their ship to teleport them all up, leaving the Asgardians puzzled—and Thor is missing....

Aboard their ship, Thor is a prisoner of the Imperial Guard and she is presented to the Gods of the Shi'ar....

Review / Commentaries

Mighty Thor, The (2015 series) #15 Review by (January 16, 2017)
Comments: The title plays on a line from President Franklin Roosevelt's declaration of war on Japan in 1941: a date that shall live in infamy.” Aside from Gladiator, the Imperial Guard members who appear are Kid Gladiator, Manta, Neutron, Smasher, Starbolt, Warbird, and Warstar. Thor Odinson is on the cover but does not appear in the issue.

Review: That synopsis only gives a taste of the plot; it's the visuals that make this issue special. Dauterman's artwork gives the larger-than-life Asgarians and Shi'ar an almost magical presence, aided by Matthew Wilson's lovely colors. These two together make one of Marvel's greatest art teams.
