The Unworthy Thor #1 Review by (November 7, 2016)
Comments: Thor lost his powers in ORIGINAL SIN #7; Nick Fury was transformed into the Unseen in ORIGINAL SIN #8. He was last seen as the prisoner of aliens in MIGHTY THOR (2015) #5. Ultimate Thor's hammer fell to Old Asgard when he was killed in the SECRET WARS (III) tie-in series THORS.

Review: Wow, a new Thor whose identity is a mystery! We haven't seen anything like this for almost three years! But seriously... Satisfying wrap-up to the saga of the unworthy Thor, and the answer to the nagging question of how he got that way. Darker and grimmer than Russell Dauterman's magical art, yet not as dark and hopeless as Esad Ribic's, the visual style aptly conveys the theme of tempered hope and a sort of redemption. Though Thor is not entirely worthy, he is Thor and he does what has to be done.. Oh and we'll overlook Jason Aaron's smug blasphemy plus the nagging question of how Nick Fury learned of Gorr, the God-Butcher, who in his villainous career never came near Earth.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

The Unworthy Thor #1 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Every day, Odinson (the original Thor) escapes the bonds of his alien captors and fights for freedom, trying to reach Ultimate Thor's hammer; every day he is overwhelmed by greater numbers and returned to captivity....

Three months earlier: Thor is informed by Alpha Flight of vandalism to satellites orbiting Earth. A picture was taken of a battle axe on the moon. Unable to fly he rides the goat Toothgnasher there where he confront trolls led by Ulik. Beaten by his longtime foe, Thor watches as his goat rams the villain while he wields the axe Jarnbjorn to fight the trolls. They bury Odinson alive and depart for Nornkeep in their flying ship; the hero digs himself out and broods over the loss of Mjolnir. The Unseen (successor to the Watcher) appears to him, telling him there is another hammer, directing him to Old Asgard. Odinson dashes there by goat to find the entire realm gone. He meets Beta Ray Bill who tells him he knows where Asgard has been taken. But first, in place of Odinson's missing hammer, Bill offers him his own....
