Synopsis / Summary / Plot

The Unworthy Thor #5 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

The Unseen, formerly Nick Fury, regrets having made Thor unworthy with a whisper but now it is time for change....

Thor has laid his hand on the hammer of Ultimate Thor and the power flows through him and he is reminded of his power as the Mighty Thor...but he also realizes that this is not his hammer so he takes his hand off it. He draws lightning power from the hammer and blasts Black Swan and Proxima Midnight out into space and away. The Collector also covets the hammer but Thor refuses to go back into his cage. In fact, Hel-Hound Thori has release all of the Collector's captives; Thor tells the Collector that he is taking back his home and tosses the villain off the battlements. Thor and Beta Ray Bill depart in Old Asgard. The frustrated Collector wants to kill something “unique and beautiful;” the guard reveals that everything is gone but himself. “Then you'll do.”

In the Black Quadrant, Black Swan and Proxima Midnight report their failure to Thanos. The mysterious hooded figure destroys them and stands revealed as Hela, Goddess of Death. She asks Thanos for his help in retaking her kingdom from Angela, and offers him in return what he most wants in the heavens: death. They kiss....

With Old Asgard back in its place, Thor relates to Bill how he could not lift the hammer as it wasn't his to wield. Instead he reveals what Nick Fury whispered to him that rendered him unworthy: “Gorr was right.” Gorr the God-Butcher was right in his claim that all gods are unworthy of the worship their followers paid them. Bill tells him he does not need a hammer to fight as a hero....

Epilogue: A mysterious figure arrives in Asgard and lifts the hammer, calling himself the War Thor....
