Thor
defeats the Absorbing Man, caught in the act of robbing a bank, by forcing him
to touch a live wire while in a metal form. He then changes beck to Dr. Donald Blake and hurries to the hospital to perform life-saving surgery on a young boy
with cancer. At home, Don wonders whether Thor’s heroism or Don Blake’s skill
gives him more satisfaction, while recapping his origin for the benefit of latecomers.
Suddenly, Heimdall appears before him, informing him of a surprise attack on
Asgard by the trolls while Odin is away on a mission to the dwarves. Loki sits
upon the throne but Thor is urgently needed. Don promises to be there soon….
In
Asgard, Tyr, God of War, suggests a tactical retreat to regroup their forces
but Loki, acting king, refuses, demanding they advance, all for his own glory.
On the battlefield, Sif and Balder are in the midst of combat when Thor arrives
in his glory, bringing the Warriors Three with him. The tide of battle turns so
Troll King Geirrodur orders the launch of a huge boulder toward Thor and his
allies, disregarding the safety of his own fighters. The boulder is launched,
Thor smashes it to bits in midair but Sif is hit by a large fragment. She is
taken to the field hospital and suddenly Odin arrives. He explains that his
mission to the dwarves was to obtain a new weapon, a solar cannon that emits a
high-pitched sound harmful only to trolls, which he demonstrates, driving off
the enemy. The battle won, Thor rushes to Sif’s side to learn she is gravely
injured. He returns to his Don Blake form to perform the surgery that saves her
life….
At
the victory celebration, Odin praises the prowess of Thor while Loki broods in
the corner….
