The
ruins of Olympia are guarded by the mismatched pair of Deviant mutates Karkas
and Ransak who savor the irony. And then Thor arrives, searching for Eternals
to aid him in his quest to find Ereshkigal, who has made off with the Unbinding Stone of Oshemar from Asgard’s vault. They tell him
that the Eternals are all gone, only Virako still there. Thor is overjoyed to
see his old friend, whom he saw die many centuries earlier. Virako introduces
Thor to Phastos, their technician, who is working on repairing the Eternals’ resurrection
chamber. They are the only two Eternals available to help Thor…and then a
Deviant invasion force led by Kro arrives to steal the resurrection chamber in
a plan to revive the dying Deviants. A battle breaks out, with Thor fighting
the gigantic Tutinax the Mountain Mover. They crash through a containment cell
where Phastos was experimenting and they appear to be fighting in slow motion.
Another broken wall releases a radiation that illuminates each individual’s
elemental analog: Kro appears to be shifting sand and Karkas looks like a
handsome human while Thor and Tutinax are glowing. Tutinax defeats Thor but Kro
refuses to allow him a final blow as they must return with haste to Lemuria,
having captured Phastos and the resurrection chamber. Thor vows to follow them
but he sees that Virako is gravely injured….
Once Virako is taken care of and his wounds dressed, Thor
announces his plans to face the Deviants in their own land, with Ransak and
Karkas volunteering to guide him. And Virako promises that, if Thor returns, he
will tell him what has become of the other Eternals….
