Synopsis

Thor (1998 series) #69 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

New Asgard, 2170: A young thief named Jordahl is caught stealing the purse of a buyer in the market place. She outruns and outjumps the guards and hides in a huge storeroom where she discovers an iron. Unable to divine its purpose, she heads outside, testing various possibilities when a portal opens up and Thialfi falls onto her. His mind is in turmoil so she conks him with the iron. She asks what he was doing, he says he was in a battle, the guards arrive and try to seize her, Thialfi comes to her aid, punching the guards and then lifting her and racing off at inhuman speed. Having come from a war zone, he is confused. Jordy invites him home for food, water, and clothing (he is missing a shirt). She tells him they are in Midgard, specifically Bostogardd Harbor. Confronted by the guards with their back-up, Thialfi again takes Jordy and quickly carries her home. She sneaks him past her mother into her bedroom. With more questions, Thialfi pieces it together, though she can’t help as years are no longer numbered. She is excited and wants to know more about old Asgard. But the glowing green face of Loki appears before them and teleports them to the dungeon where Thialfi is taken to be an uncatalogued mutant. Loki turns threatening but he is interrupted by Lord Thor himself….

Thor (1998 series) #69 Review by (September 30, 2026)

Review: And now we start with a homage to Disney’s ALADDIN, street rat Jordy presumably singing a clever song as she outwits the guards. This gives us a familiar entry point (assuming we’re Disney fans) to future Asgard with its opulence, homelike tone, and police state vibe. And Thialfi is our guide, the only character in this comic book who knows less than we do, as he skipped over issues #67 and 68, literally. Nice entry point as things will soon grow more complicated.

Comments: “The Reigning Part 1.”—Cover. This timeline is officially designated Earth-3515. On the last page, Captain America’s damaged shield hangs on the wall over the entrance to the dungeon. Colors by Ian Hannin, Avalon Studios, Robert Ro; letters by Randolph Gentile, Virtual Calligraphy. Scott Koblish contributed to the inking.
