Thor #445 Review by (February 14, 2014)
Review: Iron Man was a bad-tempered loose cannon in his issue, so why not have new Thor be an insecure noob? He rises above his inexperience to defeat the incredibly powerful Gladiator but his nagging and bluster will grow to be tiresome very quickly. The epic as a whole? One of the best multi-comic crossovers, marked by a complex story, tight plotting, strong characterization, and consistent quality. And it actually tries to mean something in the end!

Comments: Part 7 of Operation Galactic Storm.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Thor #445 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Follows IRON MAN #278

The second Avengers diplomatic team arrives in Shi’ar space and discovers a Shi’ar outpost under attack by a Kree ship. The planet’s defenders shoot down the enemy craft and assume that the Avengers are allied with the Kree. Meanwhile, Captain Marvel and Living Lightning check out the downed Kree ship and are surprised to discover a lone Skrull aboard—who triggers the self-destruct mechanism. Elswhere, Gladiator of the Imperial Guard has been summoned and Wonder Man volunteers to intercept him to explain the situation; the Shi’ar champion will not listen, though, and downs the Earth hero quickly. Thor comes to the rescue and Eric must overcome his insecurity and inexperience to hold his own against the enraged enemy hero. Eventually Thor uses the power of Mjolnir to draw Living Lightning down from the sky to blast Gladiator, and then beats his foe savagely with his hammer. Unable to contain the unconscious Gladiator, Thor hurls him through the stargate and implodes it, sealing it permanently. The team continues on their mission, following the trail to the Shi’ar homeworld traced by Captain Marvel—and they are met by a massive Shi’ar battle fleet….
