Synopsis

Ultimate End #2 synopsis by Rob Johnson
Rating: 4.5 stars
The Marvel heroes (Cyclops, Emma Frost, Hawkeye, Hulk, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man and Storm) have flown to Avengers Mansion after their meeting with the Ultimate heroes in the Triskelion last issue. They've been met by a group of Dr Doom's enforcers, Thors (these ones based on Beta Ray Bill, Destroyer, Groot and Storm plus Frog-Thor, post-Civil War Thor and original Thor).

The Thors relay Doom's command that the heroes don't try to heal the dimensional rift that resulted in a Manhattan split between the Marvel and Ultimate versions. The heroes try reasoned argument against the adamant Thors, until Hawkeye erupts in rage and gets killed by a lightning bolt for his pains. The Thors leave, their point made.

Later Ultimate Tony Stark comes to see Marvel TS (the security system lets him in because he has the same fingerprints and retinas). MTS admits that his blaming UTS for the rift is covering up his anger at himself - because neither of them were able to prevent the future they are now in. But recovered-alcoholic MTS is still angry that UTS drinks, especially in front of him. UTS throws his hip-flask out of a window.

The 2 engineers settle down to work together on the rift problem, the general Doom problem, and anything else they haven't thought of yet. They use pencil and paper most of the time, to avoid electronic snooping.

Marvel Peter Parker visits the home of his dead Ultimate counterpart, and meets that Aunt May and Gwen Stacy.

Ultimate Punisher is imprisoned in the Raft, the maximum security part of Ryker's Island. Suddenly the grey Ultimate Hulk crashes through the ceiling of the canteen. (The way he enters backwards suggests he was pushed rather than he jumped.) Marvel Maria Hill and Ultimate Nick Fury monitor the situation from the Triskelion. We see that it was a green Hulk that sent the gray Hulk into the prison, and now follows to continue the fight. (The green Hulk isn't the Marvel Hulk we saw earlier, who was a cross between Doc Green and the Maestro - this 1 is a fairly standard version.)

Nick Fury leads a SHIELD Hulkbuster squad to deal with the situation, at the same time putting out a call for any superhero help available. Punisher uses the opportunity to escape (along with some other inmates). The 2 Hulks stop fighting each other to hit the Hulkbusters. The 2 Iron Men turn up, followed by a plethora of other flying/levitating/etc characters (plus some being given a lift).

Review / Commentaries

Ultimate End #2 Review by (June 18, 2015)
Secret Wars #3 indicates that very few people survived from the Marvel and Ultimate Earths. Initially only Dr Doom and Dr Strange, but very small bands of survivors have just now been found in an escape ship from each Earth. Allegedly the Drs also rescued small areas from various alternate Earths, which make up the zones of Battleworld. Additionally they created some characters from scratch, which probably includes the Thor squad. The Battleworld has been in existence for 8 years. Ultimate Tony Stark adds to this scenario when he mentions that Doom has wiped out and restarted some zones before now. Significantly this means that the Marvel heroes in this book aren't from the main Marvel timeline - the real Marvel Cyclops and Spider-Man are in 1 of the escape pods. I had my suspicions because this book's Iron Man isn't Superior, Hulk isn't exactly Doc Green, and Cyclops doesn't appear to have the Phoenix Force. This rather undermines the poignancy of Peter Parker meeting his Ultimate version's family. It is still possible that the Ultimate characters are the real deal because none of them clash with the escapees from their Earth. I don't know enough about the Ultimate Universe to judge whether they are correctly depicted.
