Colossus and Kitty Pryde sit on cliffside overlooking
the sea near the mansion. Peter tells Kitty about how he fell in love with
someone else when he was in space (during Secret Wars). Kitty can hardly believe
her ears and does her best to put on a strong face in front of Peter, as each
word out of his mouth only hurts her more. Peter admits he wishes it never
happened but that it did and that his feelings for Kitty are just not the same
as they once were. He officially breaks up with her and says he hopes they can
still be friends while Kitty makes an excuse to leave. She somberly makes her
way back to the mansion, her head reeling, still unable to believe this is
really happening. She collapses in her room and tries to remain strong when
Illyana asks how things went but ends up breaking down crying in her arms.
Elsewhere, Storm finds Rogue in the middle of an
intense workout in the Danger Room, with the safety controls disengaged. Storm
rescues Rogue from getting hurt too badly and tells her that she can lean on
them for support. Still deeply affected by her recent run in with Michael
Rossi, Rogue rejects the offer, feeling that no one can help her. Colossus
returns to his room to find Wolverine waiting for him. Wolverine wants to have
a little talk with Peter about everything that happened and Nightcrawler ends up
tagging along, to make sure things don’t get too out of hand. Storm then finds
Kitty in her room, packing. Kitty called Xavier and explained the whole
situation, with plans to stay with her dad for a little bit of normalcy. Kitty
is unsure when she’ll be back and once again breaks down crying with Storm,
admitting that she still loves Peter.
Meanwhile, in Dallas, Valerie Cooper discusses Senator
Kelly’s recent Mutant Control Act and how it will affect the country. She has
plans to detect and deter hostile activity, using a contact named Forge, while
unbeknownst to her, her associate Raven Darkholme is really Mystique, with
plans of her own to ensure the safety of herself and other mutants. Back in New
York, Wolverine, Colossus, and Nightcrawler hang around a bar, discussing
Colossus’ whole situation with Kitty. Logan feels that Peter owes everyone an
apology and an explanation. While Peter states that he simply fell in love with
someone else, Logan feels as if Peter was running, and latched on to someone
else to avoid how things were progressing with Kitty, and the risks that come
along with a relationship progressing perhaps too quickly.
Wolverine then suddenly senses a familiar scent and
decides they’d best get out of there. Colossus, however, doesn’t want to leave
and accidentally spills his drink on the very person Wolverine wanted to avoid,
who turns out to be the Juggernaut in his civvies. The two start a full-on bar
brawl and Wolverine feels like this may actually be a good thing and advises
that he and Kurt should sit back and watch. Colossus and Juggernaut’s fight
escalates, and the patrons flee the bar. Juggernaut ends up knocking the entire
bar down on Colossus and though Colossus loses the fight, he earns Juggernaut’s
respect, and he even provides money so that the owner can fix up the bar.
Colossus feels frustrated that they didn’t help him, saying that X-Men should
always have each other’s backs and that they betrayed his trust. Wolverine
points out that he betrayed Kitty’s trust and that she was willing to marry
Caliban and join the Morlocks just to save him. He never even said thank you.
Meanwhile, on a nearby rooftop, the woman Juggernaut was chatting up turns out
to be the long-lived Selene, with plans of her own to carry out!
