Synopsis

Warlock: Rebirth #4 synopsis by Rob Johnson
Rating: 4 stars
Daredevil and Spider-Man share turkey & cheese sandwich on a rooftop that just happens to be near Dr Strange's Sanctum. Spidey wonders whether Kingpin counts as 1 of his major foes or 1 of DD's, DD points out that Wilson Fisk has tried to kill him more often than SM, and besides Spidey's got a lot more cool foes compared with DD's Stilt-Man, so Spidey lets him have Fisk. Then they notice a glow from Strange's skylight but reckon whatever it is he can probably handle it better than them.

The glow is Pip The Troll teleporting back without Adam Warlock. He tells DrS. Gamora and Legacy that he and Adam found Eve Warlock with the Soul Gem she stole from Adam. The 2 powerful heroes fought and then they both vanished. And Pip's Space Gem couldn't find them again so he hopes the sorcerer will have better luck.

We see the 2 combatants reappear in Soul World (within the Soul Gem). Eve still has the Soul Gem which she continues to maintain she is more worthy of, but she attacks with her fists. Adam responds with blasts from his karmic staff which they then tussle over. Eve wins control of the staff and then finally blasts her opponent with the Gem.

We next see Adam emaciated and 'crucified'. He slumps in final defeat. But then Gamora and Pip turn up and G's sword slices through the base of the 'cross' which falls and shatters releasing its victim. Adam revives weakly and the duo explain that Dr S was able to send them here because they had shared Adam's period of existence here (after their deaths in Avengers Annual #7/Marvel Two-In-One An#2). They've been searching for him for 3 days and now its time to return to the battle. Adam says it's useless because Eve has taken everything from him and she is too powerful. Gamora angrily retorts that he was weaker than the Magus and Thanos but he beat *them*. Adam counters that Thanos killed them all (not *quite* true), but they say that's no reason to give up.

Eve Warlock has returned to the High Evolutionary's base on what used to be the moon of Counter-Earth. But Adam plummets into her while she's still in space and they crash on the surface. Weak Adam still manages to hurt her with a punch, but then suggests they be allies rather than enemies. She refuses because she was created to be his successor not his partner. He goads her into attacking with Gem and staff and all her power, refusing to yield ...

... but he absorbs it all and now has all his stolen power back and replies with a mighty blast which fells her. He picks up his karmic staff and retakes his Soul Gem. But is then struck from behind by a blast from a big gun in the hands of the High Evolutionary.

Review / Commentaries

Warlock: Rebirth #4 Review by (January 6, 2024)
How can Eve Warlock have and use the Soul Gem in Soul World which is within the Gem? My brain hurts!

The 'cross' Adam is 'crucified' on looks rather like the 1 used for the same purpose in Hulk #177-178, and even more like the symbol of the Universal Church Of Truth that Jim Starlin introduced in his Warlock stories starting in Strange Tales #178.

Spider-Man will appear next in the beginning of Spectacular Spider-Man #207 where he discovers the ruins of Dr Strange's Sanctum.

Daredevil is here between his Annual #9 and #380, a retro-prelude to the Death of Matt Murdock/Armoured Costume saga by D G Chichester in #319-343.
